Job Description
Position Purpose
For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

The Bailiff provides law enforcement and protective services within court system to ensure City employees and the public are protected and foster general public compliance with State laws and City ordinances.
Essential Functions 1 Maintains order in a municipal courtroom and protects judges, prosecuting attorneys, and others from physical violence to ensure courtroom safety and compliance with courtroom procedures. 2 Provides appropriate courtroom or grand jury testimony as subpoenaed and applies proper courtroom techniques, rules of evidence, and procedures to ensure order in the courtroom and safety of citizens and court staff. 3 Researches warrants/subjects by accessing city, state, or federal records to enable dispositions of disputed cases or warrants to ensure all pertinent information is available to proceed accordingly. 4 Makes determination whether or not to incarcerate individuals with class "C" criminal arrest warrants to ensure protection for the public and/or property in courtroom setting. 5 Investigates and researches internal affairs complaints regarding department or any member of the court staff; ensures the integrity of the Court System is preserved. 6 Ensures and enforces judges orders, city ordinances, court rules, and state and federal laws; provides information to the public and assists with questions concerns and safety or security issues. 7 Transports and books into jail all subjects apprehended in the course of assigned duties to ensure safety to citizens and property. 8 Executes warrant of arrest and/or serves civil process issued out of the Municipal Court, Officer of the City Attorney, City Prosecutor, City Secretary, City Health Official, Civil Service Commission, or any municipal entity possessing subpoena power to obtain evidence for court proceedings. 9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned. Minimum QualificationsEDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED.
- Must have passed the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer Licensing exam.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Must pass an intensive background investigation.
- Must pass polygraph, psychological testing, and drug screening.
- No FELONY or Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions.
- No Class B MISDEMEANORS within the last ten (10) years.
- Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Courtroom Security
- Court Security Certification
- Mental Health Certification
- Knowledge of courtroom techniques and rule of evidence procedures.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and city and county ordinances.
- Knowledge of Police Standard Operating Procedures, general and special orders applicable to all aspects of law enforcement practices.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public under adverse conditions
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

- Exposed to habitual violators, belligerent, hostile, and uncooperative prisoners and suspects.
- Subject to obscene verbal and physical injury.
- May be exposed to contagious diseases and individuals with other physical or psychological illnesses or drug induced behavior from contact with the public and/or suspects.
- Not alerted in advance of the physical and psychological condition of prisoners being transported back to the City of Dallas.
