Job Description

At Backcountry, we are looking for passionate students who are eager to learn while solving real world software challenges. We offer you a complete experience on every stage of the software development lifecycle, you will work with our product owners and business partners to identify their needs and define their requirements, work with an experienced engineering team to design the solution, implement it, release it and also complement your great work by automating your solution monitoring.

As an Intern, you will play an integral role in improving our customers shopping experience and contribute to Backcountry's continued success. You’ll work across our systems building features that enhance our site at a scale of millions of visits/month, optimizing business critical code and gathering and processing data to make sense of it.

We work with Java, Scala, NodeJS, Perl and Python, building robust applications running in Spring, Camel and other frameworks, using database engines just like PostgreSQL, MongoDB in between others. You will find a variety of architectures and scalable patterns in our high demand services and applications.

About the Job:

  • Build first citizen class solutions based on a solid foundation with market standard technologies.
  • Develop micro-services, business tools and different types of backend jobs supporting our websites and business.
  • Raise the bar. Share your ideas and experience with other engineers, and advocate for best practices, great usability and exceptional quality.
  • Work with product managers to understand the users, their requirements and design scalable solutions to thrill customers.

About You:

  • Passionate about backend end technologies, systems architectures, platforms, design patterns and frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, CAMEL.
  • Passionate about designing and building software in any of the different object oriented and dynamic languages such as Java, Scala, Python and Perl.
  • Knowledge of different data storage mechanisms (Relational Databases, Cloud Storage, NoSQL).
  • Knowledge of back-end development and scalability of web applications.
  • Familiar with micro-service architectures.
  • Passion for test driven development, modular designs, and shipping quality code.
  • Comfortable in a continuous delivery environment.
  • Comfortable with automation tools and infrastructure as code.
