Essential Functions:


  • Operates all audiovisual control booth equipment, including the light console, audio console with wireless microphones, multi-camera production system, broadcast video cameras, video projector, and control computer, during rehearsals and live presentations and produces recorded archival copies of presentations.
  • Communicates with presenters, performers and supervisor(s) to assess and fulfill each individual program’s audiovisual requirements, and creates each program‘s technical sheet.
  • Acts as the auditorium stage manager for programs, supporting the performers by confirming their needs before each program and providing preshow calls.
  • Sets up all technical equipment, musical instruments, set pieces and props needed for each program, working with performers to set technical requirements during rehearsals, arranging for prop delivery and pick up before and after the run of each show, and documenting all props-on-loan moves.
  • Troubleshoots and resets/restarts exhibition AV components, including media players, video walls, digital signage displays, and touchscreen displays, and informs the Senior AV Technician of any issues.
  • Works with Senior AV Technician to perform scheduled maintenance of AV equipment and uses ladders/lifts to access stage lighting and to decorate the auditorium for the holidays.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the AV booth, auditorium storage, and backstage areas.
  • Creates or edits supporting PowerPoint or QLab 4 programs for new shows that include audio, video, stills and MIDI control of auditorium lights. Develops technical sheets for each new program and keeps them current.
  • Stays informed of all new Art Museums exhibitions, programs and special events. Notifies Public Safety of any issues/emergencies and enforces all Foundation, Art Museums and Hennage Auditorium policies for performers, docents, and guests, including fire marshal maximum room capacity.
  • Maintains a stocked inventory of AV supplies for routine programming operations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required and Preferred Education and Experience:


Required:

  • At least 3 years of experience post high school as an audio-visual technician in a theater/auditorium/stage setting, including hands-on experience with audio mixing, light board operation, video switching and microphone and audio-mixing operations.

  • Practical experience with livestreaming, theater audio and lighting systems, and stage management.

Preferred:

  • Advanced certificate, or four-year degree in technical theater production or a related field.

Qualifications:


Valid Virginia driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one) and have an acceptable driving record as measured against Colonial Williamsburg’s criteria


Proficiency in creating and editing PowerPoint presentations.


Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with guests, docents, presenters/performers, VIPs, and co-workers.


Ability to work an assigned schedule – hours vary, but are typically 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and will include weekends, holidays, and early mornings/late evenings during special events.


Ability to productively work independently, and collaboratively, with colleagues, docents, and other Art Museums’ staff.


A working knowledge of basic audio/visual equipment and a desire to learn the required operation of the equipment specific to the Hennage Auditorium (video projectors, computer audio and video programming, recording software and equipment, multi-camera production system, etc.)


Ability to follow written instructions and to clearly write instructions for others.
