A Benefit allowance may be applied toward health insurance premium costs. Typical DutiesCAREER OPPORTUNITY:This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. Under direction, performs professional legal work in the prosecution of criminal cases. Responsibilities include evaluating investigative reports; filing criminal cases; preparing pleadings, briefs, points and authorities; conducting legal research; examining and evaluating evidence; and prosecuting cases in the courts. The Attorney class is flexibly staffed to the Attorney IV level to allow for promotional opportunities as professional experience is gained and demonstrated.ABOUT THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE:The District Attorney's Office is structured to provide outstanding career growth opportunities with a strong commitment to provide quality criminal prosecution services that achieve just results. Sixty two attorneys carry out the core function of prosecution supported by 185 team members composed of investigators, administrative assistants, victim/witness service specialists, support staff, witness coordinators, fiscal staff and interns.The Office of the District Attorney serves 26 cities, townships, and districts in the county with offices in Visalia and Porterville .Employment StandardsEXPERIENCE:Active membership in the State Bar of California is required. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license is required. Newly hired Attorneys will serve At-Will and hold noncompetitive status. To be considered above the I Level, applicants must have courtroom experience and related work experience.
Attorney I: No experience required. Attorney II: One year in the full-time practice of public agency criminal law or two years in the full-time practice of law. Attorney III: Two years of full-time experience in the practice of public agency criminal law or three years in the full-time practice of law. Attorney IV: Three years in the full-time practice of public agency criminal law, or four years in the full-time practice of law. Some supervisory experienced required. Benefit Amount: An annual benefit amount is provided and may be applied towards health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision and life). This benefit is pro-rated and paid on a pay period basis (24 pay periods).
Health Insurance: A choice of PPO and HMO medical plans which include PPO and HMO dental plans and include dental and vision coverage. Dependent coverage is available. Providers include Anthem Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente, Delta Dental, and Vision Services Plan (VSP).
Retirement: The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the 1937 Act County Employees Retirement Act and integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Retirement contributions are made by both the County and the employee. The County has reciprocity with the State of California, contracting PERS agencies, and all County 1937 Act Retirement Systems.
Paid Holiday Leave: 11 set days and 1 personal holiday.
Vacation Accrual:
2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service)
3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service)
4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service)
5 weeks per year (11+ years of service)
Limit of 300 hours.
Administrative Leave: 64 hours of vacation is credited on July 1 of each year.
Sick Leave Accrual: 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 60 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave. Sick leave buy back program after 3 years of service.
Group Term Life Insurance and AD&D: $10,000; Provided by Standard Insurance Company.
Disability Insurance: Employees are covered by State Disability Insurance. The premium is paid by the employee.
Deferred Compensation: A voluntary deferred compensation plan is available.
Bar Dues: The County will pay 100% of California Bar Dues per calendar year.
