Starting Salary Range: $57,157 to $87,673 per year, salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is step 9.
Cabrillo College provides a doctoral stipend of $3,816 per year for eligible contract faculty.

Beginning Date: Position scheduled to begin January, 2022 , pending funding and Governing Board ratification. Assignment may include distance education courses, may be schedule over summer and/or winter months, and may be at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends.

About the Position: The full-time, tenure track position will enjoy a 175-Day work schedule. Classes may be in a traditional "in person", online or hybrid format, scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends. Cabrillo College expects and supports excellence. New faculty members are expected to enhance Cabrillo's state-wide reputation as a leader in shared governance through involvement in division, campus-wide and state committees. Professional responsibilities include writing curriculum, program development, committee membership, student outreach, and attendance at department and division meetings.
About the Department: Cabrillo College's HAWK (Health, Athletics, Wellness, and Kinesiology )Division seeks a dynamic and innovative individual to join its staff as a kinesiology instructor and intercollegiate head football coach. The department philosophy encourages students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve and maintain optimal health and well-being. Cabrillo College offers intercollegiate athletic programs that reflect the interests and abilities of the college's student body and local high schools. Student health and welfare, sound academic progress, and ethical conduct are the foundation of the athletic program. The department functions within the rules and regulations of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). There are five contract instructors in Kinesiology, four who are intercollegiate coaches. Cabrillo College supports fifteen athletic programs (seven men's and eight women's).
About the College: Situated on Monterey Bay in the county of Santa Cruz, California, Cabrillo College is highly regarded for its success of transfer and career education, and currently serves over 11,400 students each semester. Cabrillo College transfers many of its students to three nearby universities – the University of California at Santa Cruz, San Jose State University, and California State University at Monterey Bay. Cabrillo's career education is closely connected to the nearby agricultural and farming industries as well as the Silicon Valley business environment.

Examples of DutiesEXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Coaching Assignments: The coaching assignment is for an intercollegiate head football coach. Duties will include, but are not limited to, consulting with the football staff and associate dean of athletics to prepare the equipment and supply budget and to request and coordinate transportation needs. Additionally, the assignment includes developing daily and weekly practice plans, scouting opponents, developing game plans, and analyzing opponents' game tapes. To support the football program, the coach must promote football in Santa Cruz County and the Cabrillo College recruitment district, recruit players, participate in athletic department public relations and fundraising projects, and attend athletic department and division meetings.
Teaching Assignments: The typical teaching assignment consists of seven, three-hour classes per week per semester. During the semester of competition, coaching is 50% of the assignment. The teaching assignment will include football and may include, but not be limited to, first aid, weight training, athletic conditioning and other kinesiology courses.
General Requirements:
Teach assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments- Participate in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
- Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
- Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours
- Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
- Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.
Education and Experience:
Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff, AND
- Master's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR
- Bachelor's degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education AND a Master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR
- Equivalent (see below for details) OR
- Possess a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Physical Education
Required Professional Expertise:
- Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field, curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes
- Knowledge of and commitment to the community college philosophy, including Guided Pathways
- Knowledge of and commitment to equity-minded and culturally responsive teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success
- Understanding of, demonstrated responsiveness to, and ability to communicate with, the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning)
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
- Effective oral and written communication skills and effective use of technology
- Evidence of professional activities and service beyond primary teaching assignments
- Development and review of curriculum, including assessment of learning
- Demonstrated ability to reflect critically on institutional and teaching practices that aim to increase cultural responsiveness
- Knowledge and understanding of the accountability and critical dimensions of equity
- Demonstrated ability addressing issues of equity in the classroom
Desired Qualifications/Performance Expectations:
- Successful teaching experience in kinesiology at the community college level and coaching experience at the high school, college, or university level
- Expertise in at least three areas of physical education other than football
- Demonstrated ability to experience teaching diverse student populations
- Successful online teaching experience
- Knowledge of:
- Current theories and principles of intercollegiate football
- Skill learning progressions from beginning to advanced levels
- Conditioning and weight training principles
- Ability to:
- Employ innovative teaching techniques and methodologies
- Recruit local high school athletes within California community college parameters
- Coach student athletes
- Safely lift up to 40 pounds
- Credential and/or experience in personal training, physical fitness or wellness programming
- Experience developing and marketing new programs to diverse populations
