Position Summary

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is responsible for the management of their designated unit, including nursing practice and administrative oversight of the area. In conjunction with the Unit Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager provides guidance and direction on all aspects of unit operations, including patient experience, budgetary performance, human resources activities, and quality outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of new team members for the unit through interviews, peer selection, and evaluation of candidate.
  • Provides regular coaching and development to team members to improve their performance and enhance their skills.
  • Coordinates with the Unit Nurse Manager on corrective action and progressive discipline.
  • Conducts timely and thorough annual performance evaluations for assigned team members.
  • Investigates event reports and provides feedback to both Unit Manager and team members.
  • Manages schedule for the unit to ensure the proper mix of staff are available each shift to provide appropriate patient care.
  • Performs quality rounds and reviews, to identify variance from nursing best practice and regulatory or hospital standards. Participates in process improvement initiatives to improve outcomes and standard work.
  • Ensures the patient experience is upheld by all team members on shift and provides service recovery to patients and their families as needed.
  • Interfaces with patients and families to provide instruction, promote participation in patient care, and to coordinate nursing activities.
  • Participates and/or leads staff meetings, GEMBA board, or huddles. Demonstrates ownership of unit and outcomes.
  • Performs direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Respects the rights and privacy of others and holds staff member information in strict confidence.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Education/Training

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.

Licensure/Certification

Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid multistate RN license.

Maintain American Heart Association BLS and ACLS for the Healthcare Provider.

Experience

Four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute setting.
