Job Description
The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Associate Specialist or Full Specialist in the Krasileva Lab, in the area of plant genetics with an emphasis on resistance to pathogens.
In the Krasileva Lab, our common goal is to understand innate immunity, a system that maintains plant health. We focus on evolution and function of immune genes, as well as the mechanisms that regulate genetic diversity in plants and fungi.
This position will design and perform molecular genetics experiments funded by the NSF and other agencies. Duties include:

In the Krasileva Lab, our common goal is to understand innate immunity, a system that maintains plant health. We focus on evolution and function of immune genes, as well as the mechanisms that regulate genetic diversity in plants and fungi.
This position will design and perform molecular genetics experiments funded by the NSF and other agencies. Duties include:
- Designing genetic experiments and gene expression studies with multiple plant species, such as wheat, maize and tomato among others
- Maintenance and or initiation of collaborations (both internal and with outside research institutes or companies)
- Design and coordination of experimental field plots as well as molecular biology experiments
- Contributing data to grants and publications
- Initiating and optimizing protocols
- Delivering presentations at scientific meetings and providing regular updates to funding agencies
- Contributing to drafting and editing publishable scientific manuscripts
- Genetic work will involve mapping complex traits, gene discovery and evaluation of tradeoffs in biotic and abiotic stress on plant physiology
- Designing and participating in our outreach programs that are centered around research activities
- Hands on training with students
- Oversight of lab maintenance
- Day-to-day oversight of lab staff, undergraduate students, and occasionally rotating graduate students
