Associate Laboratory Manager

Encodia is a rapidly growing platform company that is developing a new generation of protein analysis tools based on single-molecule protein sequencing. Our goal is to make protein sequencing easy and ubiquitous by using a novel reverse-translation technology that turns peptide sequences into DNA. The DNA can be read by a DNA sequencer, providing a path to breakthrough proteomics research at a scale that is not practical or cost-effective using current technologies.

Encodia is seeking to recruit an Associate Laboratory Manager with 5+ years’ of experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a closely related field. Responsibilities include overseeing daily laboratory operations and safety, managing inventory, providing support for equipment maintenance and repair, and ensuring the laboratory is well maintained and organized. The nature of the role is highly cross-functional, requiring strong leadership, creative problem solving, and organizational and communication skills.

• Overseeing day to day operations by identifying and addressing any laboratory needs or concerns and making recommendations for improvements.
• Monitoring laboratory safety and ensuring all personnel are in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Assisting with inventory tracking and supply chain management by purchasing and receiving laboratory supplies, chemicals, and reagents.
• Ensuring cleanliness and overall organization of all areas of the laboratory.
• Maintaining all laboratory equipment including instrument support and training, regular maintenance, service contracts, and repairs as needed.
• Coordinating hazardous waste disposal and record keeping.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with vendors, sales representatives, and technical support.
• Preparing reagents, buffers, and solutions, and assisting with occasional wet laboratory tasks as necessary.
• Communicating with both scientists and administrators to coordinate laboratory management tasks and resolve any potential problems.

Requirements

• BS/MS with 5+ years’ of relevant experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Experience in laboratory operations or management.
• Previous wet laboratory experience in biotech or life sciences required.
• Must be highly organized, analytical, accurate and detail oriented.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a zeal for organization.
• Ability to interface and communicate well across all levels of the organization as well as with outside vendors.

• Prior laboratory operations or management experience.
• Strong organization, communication, and record keeping skills.
• Strong ability to lead and organize other people to reach a shared goal.
