The Department of Pathology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology is seeking a doctoral level (Ph.D) applicant to serve as Assistant/Associate Director of Clinical Microbiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH). The TJUH clinical microbiology laboratory offers full service aerobic and anaerobic bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, infectious diseases serology, virology, and rapid molecular microbiology testing. TJUH is a 900+bed academic medical center and an integral part of Jefferson Health, the second largest employer in the Philadelphia area.
In this role, the selected candidate will be expected to participate in training pathology residents, infectious diseases fellows, and medical students. The Assistant/Associate Director will have responsibility providing clinical microbiology direction to both the TJUH clinical microbiology laboratory and consultation with microbiology laboratories at other Jefferson Enterprise hospital locations (total of 14 hospitals in PA and NJ).
Qualified applicants will have certification from, or be board eligible by, the American Board of Medical Microbiology, preferably having completed an ASM CPEP-approved program in Medical and Public Health Laboratory Microbiology. A strong academic orientation is favorable, including evidence of scholarly achievement and proposals or current funding for translational research projects.
