The SUNY Poly Assistant Vice President for Policy and Regulatory Affairs will report to the Vice President for Policy and Regulatory Affairs. Duties, as directed by or through the Vice President for Policy and Regulatory Affairs, include but are not limited to:

  • Manage, draft, review and negotiate wide scope of business agreements, including strategic research, development, and commercialization alliance agreements, joint development agreements, licensing agreements, equipment purchase agreements, non-disclosure agreements, membership agreements, grant disbursement agreements, subcontracts, facility access agreements and service agreements.
  • Research, review and advise the executive management team and various operating units on risk, policy and compliance issues for agreements, intellectual property, sponsored programs, federal and state grants and export compliance to mitigate exposure and enable internal teams to make informed decisions.
  • Assist with development, implementation and improvement of cross-functional initiatives to streamline and optimize the organization's contracting process.
  • Train staff on contract terms, including intellectual property ownership and licensing, confidentiality obligations and export compliance.
  • Work with external counsel and The Research Foundation Office of General Counsel on specific projects, e.g., contract disputes, contract interpretation issues, intellectual property matters or legal actions, as needed.
  • Perform such other reasonable duties as may be assigned by or through the Vice President for Policy and Regulatory Affairs.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization. Strong contracts experience including 3-5 years of experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts with non-profit, industry, and government. Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment. Superior diplomacy skills and an ability to manage conflict. Candidate must be a self-starter, able to work both independently and as part of integrated teams, highly organized, detail oriented, and possess strong computer, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

J.D. degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

The candidate will be exposed to several highly confidential areas and therefore, ability to demonstrate experience in as many of the following topics will be desirable: commercial transactions, intellectual property protection and/or transfer, industrial research, federal statutory/regulatory, and export control.
