Position Overview:
This role will provide support in the delivery of due diligence and real estate analysis for CMBS, agency multifamily, securitization and other commercial real estate loan underwriting and debt consulting services. This role manages multiple transactions with multiple clients under tight timelines.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform all aspects of the due diligence and underwriting process for commercial real estate loans including analyzing property level data and guarantor financial statements, and reviewing and approving appraisals, property condition assessments and environmental reports
- Perform site inspections, determine appropriate market comparables for property valuation and asset summary reports, and complete tenant analyses
- Identify risks and potential mitigants for property related issues
- Research, analyze and summarize market and submarket information including inventory, absorption, new/proposed development, and rent and vacancy trends
- Prepare final underwriting and credit approval memoranda and present loans for internal credit approval process
- Manage all aspects of the structuring, legal documentation and closing of approved loans with clients, co-lenders (for a combination of syndicated loans and loans with subordinate debt), the internal team and outside counsel
- Independently manage interactions and underwriting assignments directly with Clients
- Interface with credit rating agencies and institutional investor groups
- Manage and/or mentor senior and junior underwriters and analysts to expand their skills sets and expertise in commercial real estate
- Manage CRE advisory projects (non-underwriting assignments) with existing and new clients, which may be in conjunction with other business lines
- Such other activities as may be assigned by your manager
Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Preferred fields of study include Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, and Business
- 3-7 years’ experience in real estate related or financial services industry, such as appraisal, brokerage, or banking primarily focused on commercial properties strongly preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience underwriting agency multifamily, CMBS, agency multifamily or CRE balance sheet loans or securitization strongly preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of commercial real estate, due diligence process, commercial lending policies, securitization and credit and risk management policies
- Full understanding of property sectors (office, retail, industrial, hotel, multifamily) and their different investment characteristics and an ability to see the "big picture" in commercial real estate and capital markets finance transactions
- Proficient in Argus
- Excellent Excel and cash flow modeling skills
- Strong business writing skills
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding of deal pricing and profitability that contributes to the financial success of CAD and the firm
- Proven ability to lead and manage multiple teams and projects
Special Requirements:
- The employee may be required to report to a different local office as a normal, contemplated, and mandated incident of their employment.
