Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Sports Turf Manager (Full Time), Charlotte Knights Location: Charlotte, North Carolina Supervisor: Director of Field Operations Job Description: The Charlotte Knights, AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, are seeking qualified and motivated applicants for the position of Assistant Sports Turf Manager. This is a full time salaried position which includes ability to enroll in company health insurance, dental, and 401K plans. Applicants should be able to work well with others in an environment which includes long hours and possible stressful situations. This position should be able to complete individual work in an efficient manner. Applicants are required to be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Applicants should have completed either a 2 or 4 year turf degree program, or have equivalent work experience in the sports turf industry. Completion of a sports turf management internship or previous turf management experience at the collegiate or professional level is encouraged. All applicants must be able to obtain a North Carolina Pesticide Applicator License within the first 6 months of employment. Duties for this position include assisting the Director of Field Operations with the following:
  • Supervise, instruct, and schedule game-day grounds crew
  • Daily infield skin maintenance
  • Mound/Plate clay repair
  • Mowing, Aeration, Verticutting, Topdressing
  • Edging
  • Batting Practice set up and break down
  • Fertilization and Pesticide applications
  • Tarp pulls
  • Warning track maintenance
  • Equipment maintenance and repair
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to facilitating projects in the Stadium Operations Department along with assisting and supervising Special Events Department for on field event set up and breakdown
Requirements:
  • Ideal applicant should have a background in turf management knowledge or related experience
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina Certified Pesticide Applicators License
  • Ability to work all Charlotte Knights home games in addition to outside events
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Ability to work and represent the Charlotte Knights in a professional manner
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
  • Be willing to work in an environment which adheres to employee safety protocols regarding Covid – 19 guidelines
  • Ability to relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina
