Position Highlights The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine is recruiting early or mid-stage career, infectious disease scientists with an MD or MD-PhD who have either established or show promise of establishing a research career. A generous startup package, protected research time, and renovated laboratory space will be provided.

The Division has flourishing programs in the areas of HIV care, including a large Ryan White-funded program; Antimicrobial Stewardship; and extramurally funded research in HIV immunopathogenesis and aging. Close scientific collaborative relationships exist with the Department of Immunobiology, the Valley Fever Center of Excellence; the Pulmonary Division, and the Cancer Center.

Important resources available to researchers at the University of Arizona School of Medicine include animal care facilities, as well as a veterinary diagnostic laboratory; biostatistical, bioinformatics and computing core services; flow cytometry, microscopy, genomics and proteomics cores; a clinical translational science center that supports clinical trials; the Sarver Heart Center; the Arizona Respiratory Center; the Center on Aging; and a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Establishment of an independent research program with extramural funding and publication of research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Participation in research seminars of the Department and College.
  • Participation in outpatient and inpatient Infectious Disease clinical consultations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD Degree
  • Completion of a post-doctoral fellowship in Infectious Diseases
  • Board eligibility or board certification required

Preferred Qualifications *Candidates in the fields of virology, immunology, mycology and HIV infection are especially encouraged to apply. *A strong publication record and demonstrated potential for obtaining independent research funding. *Established expertise working with diverse communities.
