Assistant Men S Soccer Coach

Knox College invites applications for the position of Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach. This is a 12-month, non-benefits eligible position reporting to the Head Men’s Head Soccer Coach. Anticipated start date is April 1, 2022. The salary range for this position is competitive. The successful candidate will have a focus on supporting student-athlete success and developing a competitive NCAA Division III program.

Knox College, a member of the Midwest Conference and NCAA Division III, is a vibrant community of scholar-teachers and students with a tradition of free inquiry, independent thought, and diverse perspectives. Men’s Soccer has been one of the premier programs for Prairie Fire Athletics going 112-36-12 overall and 60-10-4 in Midwest Conference play starting in 2013. From the 2013 season to present day the team has qualified for all 8 conference tournaments, won 4 regular-season championships, and won 2 MWC Tournament Championships. Recruiting nationally and internationally, the team consists of student-athletes from across the globe and have received numerous major conference and regional awards. Coming off of their second NCAA Tournament appearance (2018 and 2021) and another MWC regular-season championship in 2021, Knox College men’s soccer is poised to move to the top of the north region standings and gain national recognition. Additionally, starting in 2018, the Prairie Fire soccer teams began to compete on a new, soccer-dedicated synthetic turf as Prats Field at Whitcomb Soccer Facility was transformed into one of the best Division III soccer complexes in the region. Phase two of Prats Field renovations were completed in 2020 with the installation of a new video scoreboard and other amenities. Knox student-athletes are driven individuals with a high focus on achievement in the classroom, on their respective field(s) of play, and, as community leaders. While institutional support for intercollegiate athletics at the College is strong, Prairie Fire athletics is aided by our generous athletics supporters who form our ‘team behind the team’, the K Club. While the K Club has been active for many years, the past three years have seen its upward trajectory rise significantly both in dollars raised, and in alumni engagement.

Thanks to recent record-setting fundraising, the following upgrades to Prairie Fire facilities have been made possible:

• Creation of the 1,500+ square-foot state-of-the-art Schmid Golf Performance Center which boasts a putting green, high-tech aboutGolf course simulator, custom lockers, and a 70-inch video screen
• LED video scoreboard, goals, a gated brick archway, and an upgraded Jorge Prats Field with high-quality synthetic turf at the Whitcomb Soccer Facility
• LED scoreboards at Blodgett Field (baseball) and the Softball Complex
• Improvements to the infield and outfield of the softball field and the installation of bullpens with backstops
• Branded strength and conditioning equipment in the E & L Andrew Fitness Center
• Prairie Fire branded jumps pits and throws implements for the track and field programs
• Top of the line electrostatic painting and refurbishment of all locker facilities branded in Knox purple
• New modern flooring was installed in the athletic training room and offices

In addition, the past three years have seen the athletics department:

• Facilitate increased branding of all Prairie Fire facilities
• Increase its social media presence across all channels
• Complete a website redesign to capitalize on the department’s increased online audience
• Development of student-centered Forever Fire Career Development and diversity, equity, and inclusion programming

Coming off of another strong year of fundraising, the department is in the process of installing new state-of-the-art video and audiovisual technology in the department's multi-purpose room and film room as well as enhancing each locker room used by the Prairie Fire.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach is responsible for assisting and supporting the head coach in all aspects of the Knox College Men’s Soccer program including but not limited to: assisting with the execution of a successful recruiting and retention plan; assisting with the integration of the program into the campus community; scheduling, planning, and supervising practices and contests as assigned; assisting with the management of the programs’ operating budget; assisting with the administration of all aspects of the program ensuring compliance with departmental, institutional, Midwest Conference (MWC) and NCAA rules and regulations; assisting with alumni and booster engagement including promotion of program on social media platforms; additional coaching and administrative duties as assigned. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.

In addition, this position will have winter and spring non-coaching athletics event duties (e.g., local youth basketball league tournament and youth track meets) and serve in a supplementary role, as needed, with game-day operations for softball, baseball, and one home track meet.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
• 1 or more years college soccer coaching experience
• Valid Driver's License
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects
• An appreciation for a residential liberal arts education and flexibility to adapt to constant change
• Respect for individual differences, openness to the values and opinions of others, and commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for underrepresented communities

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1 or more years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division III level
• 1 or more years of college soccer recruiting experience
• Experience with Front Rush Database or similar platform
• Experience recruiting soccer in the Midwest and internationally
• Prior experience performing scouting duties
• Experience with youth and skills camps
