Description:The assistant nurse manager is a registered professional nurse, conversant with the nursing process,
who has accountability when the nurse manager is not present during the assistant nurse manager’s
shift. The assistant nurse manager will support the nurse manager in developing long term planning,
human and fiscal resources in a designated patient care area. Compliance with all regulatory groups to
ensure safe, ethical and quality patient/family centered-care is required. The assistant nurse manager
promotes MAGIS behavior within the organization and patient care area; and supports various health
system-sponsored programs. Recognizes, promotes and consistently applies knowledge of 14 Forces of
Magnetism.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Required: Associates Degree Nursing

Preferred: Bachelors Degree Nursing

Minimum Experience:

Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience

Licensure/Certifications:

Required: Current Registered Nurse License State of Illinois Preferred: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Other: Specialty certification in a clinical or functional area of nursing granted by a national nursing organization is preferred.

Position Responsibilities:

Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating the annual department goals and objectives in alignment with the mission, philosophy, operating principles, model of care and strategic plans/goals. Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and professional standards impacting the clinical area. Establishes unit based evidenced-based projects/research projects as appropriate. Utilize the patient safety communication system, identify appropriate. Demonstrate improvement in the quality and safety of patient care through an interdisciplinary unit based committee/mechanism, which monitors the effectiveness/appropriateness and outcomes of patient care. Communicate and ensure compliance with Medical center and unit policies. Provide timely and constructive feedback related to all aspects of performance. Conduct coaching and counseling for performance improvement and succession planning. Participates in departmental activities collaboratively with other disciplines and departments including multidisciplinary rounding. Champions, supports, develops, and implements evidenced-based innovations and monitors and evaluates appropriately. Authorize purchases and maintain inventories for optimal unit function. Monitor and address environmental and physical conditions of unit/service area(s) to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, families, and staff. Ensure operation and maximize utilization of available computerized systems. Cultivate an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust and foster successful partnerships with the administrative director, unit medical director, health care team, other organizational units and the community. Empower staff to improve operations and solve problems and encourage their participation in the shared decision-making process/unit/house-wide councils/committees.
