Job Description

5 hours/wk September through April

40 hours/wk May through August

Do you love watching kids’ eyes light up like they just saw magic? Do you think strong technology skills are the key to kids’ futures?

Techsplosion is seeking an assistant manager to help continue to grow our renowned STEM programs. As the assistant manager, you will assist with booking our summer programs during the off-season and with managing them during the summer. You'll have opportunities to learn a variety of skills as you master the arts of selling our programs to new rec centers, calmly resolving crises as they arise, and mentoring our instructors on our curriculum.

IMPORTANT: This is an hourly role which will require about 5 business hours per week in the off-season (September-April) and 40 hours per week during summer (May-August).

As Assistant Manager, you will:

- Collaborate with 20+ recreation centers and schools to orchestrate a balanced schedule of summer programs, ensuring we operate at a consistent capacity throughout the summer.

- Solve basic technical issues and mentor both instructors and the current owner on how to use our various technologies. Although everything we do is fairly basic, this is a great position for someone who considers themselves a "techie."

- Collaborate with instructors and use our proprietary scheduling software to ensure all summer camps are adequately staffed and our camp capacity is maximized.

- Liaise with rec center staff, instructors, and parents to resolve issues that arise at camp.

You might like this position if you:

- Like variety in your work, and enjoy learning new skills as you go.

- Have a track record of excellent judgement. You'll have a lot of responsibility in this position, and it's critical that you can make good decisions even without oversight.

- Have a keen eye for detail. If we enter a camp incorrectly in our system, it could result in up to 24 children being left unattended. We've gotta get it right the first time, then double and triple check.

- Have some background in technology. What we do is nothing super advanced, but Techsplosion's current owner is not tech savvy. You will be provided tech training by the previous owner, and will be expected to mentor both the current owner and instructors.

- Are comfortable defusing crisis situations and calming upset parents. You will often be the point of contact when there is a conflict between campers or an emergency of some sort.

At a minimum, you should:

- Be over the age of 18 and legally able to work in the US

- Be available ~5 business hours/wk Sept-Apr and 40 business hours/wk May-Aug

- Have a car and a valid driver's license

- Live in the immediate Bay Area, ideally in Alameda County or San Francisco. You may sometimes be asked to commute to camp facilities as far south as Campbell, north as Petaluma, and east as Hayward.

Techsplosion is proud to embrace diversity in our small and ambitious organization. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other characteristic that has no significant impact on your ability to perform the functions of the job.

We wish you the very best of luck in your job search, and we look forward to meeting you soon!
