Responsibilities:- Assists the Senior Director of Pharmacy in providing leadership and direction to all aspects of pharmacy operations in area of responsibility and as assigned (Inpatient and Acute Care Pharmacy Services).
- Directs pharmacy staff in all activities including order verification, dispensing, sterile compounding, medication and supply procurement, inventory management, and distribution.
- Demonstrates proficiency in various systems used for daily operational functions.
- Assists in the assessment and implementation of new/modified services, process change, process improvement, and operational changes in area of responsibility.
- Promotes staff engagement and encourages growth through ad hoc projects and assignments.
- Evaluates and reviews operations to identify possible improvements in areas of responsibility, including workload reports.
- Consults, advises and informs the Senior Director of Pharmacy concerning administrative or operational issues.
- Provides professional and administrative guidance to managers, pharmacists, residents, technicians, and students.
- Assists and guides clinical leadership in developing policy regarding operational feasibility and efficiency.
- Serves as a liaison to other departments, including medical staff, nursing staff, environmental services, campus operations, information technology, billing and compliance, etc.
- Ensures initial and annual competencies and requirements are met for each employee.
- Ensures continuing hospital and departmental performance assessment and process improvement.
- Serves as a liaison with the office of human resources in all employee relations issues.
- Reviews and evaluates all applicable federal, state, and enforceable regulations/standards including USP, Joint Commission, FDA, OSHA, etc., and establishes appropriate workflows to ensure compliance in area of responsibility.
- Maintains knowledge of current industry best practices in pharmacy operations.
- Prioritizes patient safety and safe work practices by participating in activities such reviewing patient safety event reports.
- Understands the significance of the 340B program and ensures that workflows support compliance with the program’s requirements.
- Assists and supports the Senior Director of Pharmacy in the preparation and planning of budget for allocation of funds for capital equipment, operational equipment, and resources in accordance with departmental goals
- Assists and participates in the management of inventory as it pertains to drug shortages and as otherwise assigned.
- Recommend and implement cost containment measures in department operations.
- Assist with analyzing trends, identifying opportunities, and implementing changes in systems or technology to improve efficiency, productivity, and reduce costs.
- Monitors daily pharmacy revenue reports for assigned areas to ensure that charges are generated properly.
- Reviews pharmacy billing and charging errors and perform account corrections when necessary.
- Ensures that staff receive necessary initial and continuous training for relevant policies, procedures, regulations, software, equipment, medications, etc.
- Precepts pharmacy students and residents.
- Develops effective working relationships with various departments to facilitate departmental and institutional goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree or higher.
- Six (6) years of hospital experience to include two (2) years of progressive, responsible experience related to pharmacy management (PGY1 residency equates to three years of experience).
- Licensed registered pharmacist by the state of Arkansas, or eligible for licensure in Arkansas.
- Demonstrates excellent knowledge of pharmacy distribution systems.
- Displays sound analytical thinking in complex situations.
- Displays professionalism in accepting and sharing responsibility for meeting Pharmacy and Therapeutics Service Line goals.
- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Shows leadership as defined by UAMS Leadership Competencies.
- Pharm.D.
- Additional advanced degree (MS, MBA, MHA, MPA, etc.) and/or completion of a general or administrative ASHP-accredited residency.
- Seven years of prior hospital or applicable staff pharmacist experience (PGY1 residency equates to three years of experience) and/or three years of operations management experience, preferably in a hospital or applicable setting.
- Board certification or equivalent accredited certification/credentials in a related field.
