Detailed Job Description
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the Dyer Arts Center and (1) oversees the daily operation of the NTID Dyer Arts Center, including staffing, budgeting, marketing, and events (2) manage all aspects of events taking place in and associated with the Dyer Arts Center, and (3) is responsible for the online outreach of the Dyer Arts Center through social media and other channels.

The Assistant Director oversees the daily operation of the Dyer Arts Center, including opening, closing, event use, facility maintenance and supplies, and installing and deinstalling exhibitions. The Assistant Director develops and executes events and programming related to the Dyer Arts Center's exhibitions and supports the Director in executing the vision and strategic plans of the Dyer Arts Center. The Assistant Director is responsible for giving tours or training student assistants to give tours of the Dyer Arts Center, writing exhibition statements, and managing budget for events.

The Assistant Director oversees all aspects of events taking place in and associated with the Dyer Arts Center. This includes responsibility for working with the event customer to ensure the goals of the event are met and that the event happens within budget. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and maintaining NTID policy pertaining to events within the Dyer and approves and denies event requests. All aspects of event finances are managed by the Assistant Director. This includes issuing quotes, invoices for both on and off campus clients and tracking department chargebacks for on-campus customers. The Assistant Director will staff all events, providing customer service and resolving issues as needed. Must be available to work after hours and on weekends.

The Assistant Director is responsible for the online outreach of the Dyer Arts Center through social media and other channels for various audiences. The Assistant Director creates online written and video content for social media and the Dyer Arts Center's newsletters and seeks ways to increase online outreach.



Department/College Description

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree: Arts management, arts management research, art history, museum studies, fine arts, art education, design, public relations, advertising/marketing, humanities, or related field
  • Five (5) experience in a particular art form such as photography, sculpture, paintings, contemporary art, advertising, business administration, museum work/art gallery operations, computers/internet media, or related field.

Specialized Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Working knowledge of Deaf art history
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail is required
  • Excellent written creative and communications skills
  • Fantastic customer service ethics and high expectations for quality
  • Experience with Deaf Culture and ability to communicate in American Sign Language or willingness to learn
Preferred:
  • Advanced ability/proficiency/fluency in American Sign Language communication skills
  • Experience working with financial management software
