Purpose of Position
Function: Performs as the direct program supervisor and lead advisor of the UTSA Dreamer's Resource Center. Responsible for working with the MSCEJ Director and various campus constituents to provide student support, college access, campus network / awareness / advocacy, and community outreach to underrepresented student populations. Serves as the liaison with other University departments and external agencies ensuring the highest level of tact, diplomacy and judgment at all times.
Scope: Responsible for connecting with underrepresented student populations including undocumented students and coordinating all aspects of the Dreamers Resource Center in collaboration with MSCEJ staff. Represent the University's Dreamers Resource Center internally as well as at city, regional, state and national levels.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
Four years of professional experience in a full-time, paid position working with college students in an advisory capacity. (Additional education can substitute required experience on a one-for-one basis.)
Knowledge of undocumented student issues.
Possess a working knowledge of academic programs, policies and procedures and student support services.
Strong oral, written and presentation skills; ability to convey complex concepts and communicate with students, faculty, staff and community members in a manner that promotes dialogue and understanding.
Demonstrated skills in the following areas: budgeting, program planning, project management, marketing, and effective collaboration with diverse constituencies.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to be resourceful and proactive.
Track record of highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, inclusive practice, openness, flexibility, integrity and compassion.
High level of tact, diplomacy and judgment.
Ability to embrace rapid change and develop new solutions to meet evolving student needs.
Bilingual - fluent in English and Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree from an accredited university in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, Education, Counseling, Social Work, Social Justice or related field.
Five years of professional experience in a full-time, paid position working with college student groups and underrepresented populations in an advisory capacity.
Experience working with college students, faculty, and staff in a culturally diverse metropolitan university.
Thorough knowledge of University administrative structure, policies and procedures.General knowledge of DACA laws and the effect on students in higher education.
Demonstrated skills in advocacy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Publisher, Quicken Programs, CollegiateLink, Canva, and Adobe Photoshop.
Working Conditions
Extended weekend and evening hours as required to meet with students, implement campus programs, and participate in special projects and community activities.
High level of group and interpersonal interactions with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
Some travel required.
Fast-paced environment with multiple interactions.

Responsibilities
- Oversees the Dreamers Resource Center to include planning, directing and implementing the programs and activities sponsored by the Center.
- Works closely with and provides regular updates to University administrators including the President and various members of staff.
- Informs the Office of Government Relations of any local, regional or national meetings and/or conferences in addition to any contact with government or state agencies.
- Collaborates and communicates with external constituencies and community partners who can provide additional support of education, advocacy and awareness to campus community.
- Provides assistance to students with navigating through national polices.
- Participates in developing the departmental strategic plan based on departmental goals.
- Plans budgets for the department and assists the Director in planning and budgeting for the department.
- Advises new, transfer and continuing students and their families, linking them to campus opportunities to enhance their academic experience.
- Engages with departmental and program academic advisors to gain a working knowledge of program requirements to consider when assisting students in connecting with University resources and opportunities.
- Develops and maintains support mechanisms and practices to assist students from diverse backgrounds in accessing University resources and opportunities.
- Develops, leads and manages an advisory committee for program development, evaluations and recommendations.
- Assists students in accessing non-academic resources necessary to thrive, such as counseling, legal aid, housing, tax support, etc.
- Develops and maintains practices and procedures for following up with students.
- Serves as the University point-of-contact for Dreamer related information for faculty, staff, students and internal and external constituents.
- Works closely with University Communications and Marketing on external communication and media coverage including print, radio and television to ensure proper University messaging.
- Develops resources (printed literature, web sites, videos, social media sites, etc.) to assist students in exploring opportunities to enhance their academic program at the University.
- Serves on University committees and makes recommendations that affect advising processes, program development and published materials.
- Engages in data compilation, analysis and reporting program outcomes while upholding student confidentiality in accordance with the policies of the U.T. System, University, State and Federal laws.
- Participates in information sessions, orientations, college applications, financial aid and tabling events on campus and in the community.
- Builds a network of internal and external constituents to understand, identify and coordinate services specifically for Dreamer students.
- Manages the Dreamer Ally program.
- Develops new programming and workshops specific to these populations in areas of legal, academic, financial and mental health.
- Interprets student needs and refers students to campus-wide support services. Follows up and tracks utilization to ensure interventions are being applied.
- Supports all programs and events coordinated and sponsored by the Multicultural Student Center for Equity and Justice as well as university-wide programs including, but not limited to, Roadrunner Days and Commencement.
- Recruits, supervises, trains and manages graduate assistant(s) and student assistant(s).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Periodic: - Serves on a variety of university and community committees and task forces.
- Accompanies students to conferences and experiential-learning opportunities.
- Provides leadership for the department along with and in the absence of the Director.
