About the Organization:
Founded in 1973, Korean Community Services of Metropolitan (KCS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
providing culturally appropriate programs that center the advancement of wellness and economic
security of the Korean American and larger immigrant community. We are a multi-social service
organization specializing in the areas of Aging, Education, Immigration, Mental Health, Public
Health & Research, and Workforce Development. KCS has offices across New York and New Jersey
  • including our Headquarters in Queens, Mental Health Clinic, Corona Senior Center, Flushing
Senior Center, and other satellite offices - that employ 44 full-time staff and 75 part-time staff.

About the KCS Flushing Senior Center:
KCS operates two senior centers located in Corona and Flushing that provide environments that
promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of seniors. We accomplish this through various
educational and recreational activities, which include English classes and art classes. KCS also aims
to create a better community for seniors to age in place through the Homebound Meals program and
case assistance to help them access public benefits.

About the Position:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Senior Centers, the Assistant Director will assist in
the overall administration of programs, supervise staff and volunteers, and provide case assistance.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assists the Director with program management, development, and evaluation
  • Provide information, entitlement counseling, and case assistance
  • Manage the supervision of social services staff
  • Recruit, supervise, and coordinate activities of volunteer workers
  • Work with Director during program planning, development, and fundraising events
  • Manage inventory control and the purchase of supplies
  • Compile statistics, prepare reports, keep attendance and other required records
  • Represent agency in community and interagency activities
  • Manage daily senior center activities and programs
  • Substitute for Director in Director’s absence
  • Demonstrates leadership to maintain credibility, trust, and support within the Senior Center
  • Prioritizes conflicting needs and handles matters expeditiously and proactively

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Human Services Field from a nationally
accredited institution
  • Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Sensitivity to confidential matter is required
Interest, enthusiasm, and affinity for KCS’ mission
  • Ability to speak Korean is required due to client demographic
  • Proven leadership experience and ability to work independently
  • Prior administrative and program planning experience is preferred
