Reporting Relationship: Reporting to the Controller
The Opportunity:
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for executing finance objectives and assignments relating to the accounting operations, including internal and external financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have public company experience and thrive in fast-paced, results-oriented, hands-on environments in small to medium size companies. We are looking for a critical thinker who brings new ideas and will help define the future of the finance organization. This position reports to the Controller.
Professional Responsibilities:

  • Functional areas of responsibilities include hands-on accounting for prepaids, revenue recognition, accounts receivable, equity accounting, accruals (with a focus on clinical trial expense accruals) and fixed assets.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (and related footnote disclosures) in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Partner with other Finance team members for the timely and accurate preparation of external financial reporting, including the drafting and finalization of Forms 10-Q, 10-K and other SEC filings as required, in compliance with SEC regulations and US GAAP disclosure requirements.
  • Interact with senior management and key stakeholders on business activities to ensure proper financial management and reporting.
  • Perform technical accounting research, and prepare summary accounting treatment memo, as necessary.
  • Serve as a key contact for and manage external audit and other service providers.
  • Design and implement strong internal controls and oversee execution and testing of controls to ensure overall compliance with SOX 404B requirements.
  • Responsible for directly managing a Senior Accountant, and reviewing the work of others for accuracy and compliance including payroll and equity.
  • Assist in risk management to include business insurance renewals.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecast.
  • Responsible for the design and development of improved accounting operations.
  • Manage and lead various process improvement and financial systems projects.
  • Keeps informed of current developments in the field of US GAAP standards, other authoritative standards, new legislation, professional trends, and technological advances within biopharmaceutical industry.

Education/Experience:

  • BS/BA degree in accounting.
  • Demonstrated progression within a public company with at least 7+ years of recent experience in accounting/finance role.
  • SEC reporting experience.
  • CPA with a Big 4 public accounting firm, preferred.
  • Biotech/Pharma experience, preferred.

  • Process and system orientation with an understanding of internal controls.
  • Computer skills: Functional experience with an ERP; proficiency in MS Office applications such as; Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint. Equity Edge and ADP system experience a plus.
  • Experience in project management and system implementation.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, a self-starter, able to take responsibility and maintain high quality and accuracy in reporting with specific deadlines.
  • Strong management and leadership skills, including demonstrated track record of developing individuals and teams.
  • Team-oriented with outstanding integrity, accuracy and organizational skills.
