Job Description
Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Director, provides ASL/English interpreting services to the Associate Director of Student Accessibility Services at Brown University during the work day in a variety of settings which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and training
- At least two years’ experience interpreting in a university setting, experience as a designated interpreter in an academic setting preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication techniques, organizational skills and able to work without close supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with students, faculty, staff, the public and external agencies.
- Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
- Cultural competence across the diverse range of students, faculty and staff
- Maintains professional licenses, memberships and certifications in the field.
- Must possess at least ONE of the following credentials or equivalent:
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf - National Association of the Deaf (NIC) Certification
- Certificate of Interpreting (CI)
- Certificate of Transliteration (CT)
- Comprehensive Skills Certificate (CSC)
- National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Interpreter Certification Program
- Certificate of Competence Level IV (Advanced)
- Certificate of Competence Level V (Master)
- MUST be Rhode Island state licensed
- The interpreter must be able to interpret from ASL into spoken English at a level that accurately and appropriately represents someone at the level of Associate Director at an Ivy League university.
- Adhere to the RID/NAD Code of Professional Conduct (CPC), applying discretion and using their best skill and judgment regarding each assigned task.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication techniques, organizational skills and able to work without close supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with students, faculty, staff, the public and external agencies.
