General Summary/Overview Statement:

Incumbent will report to the Manager for Radiation Oncology Information Systems. The Applications Analyst II is responsible for the day to day coordination of assigned clinical information system tasks and the management of small to medium projects and/or sub-projects. S/he will participate in the design, development, testing, implementation, and on-going maintenance of new and existing clinical information systems.

Work responsibilities include the support of Radiation Oncology specific software applications, information systems, integration and hardware, providing direct customer support, working on complex project tasks, and managing projects as needed. The Applications Analyst II acts as a liaison between the Radiation Oncology Department, Outreach (Collaborative) site hospital staff and system vendors to coordinate implementation, testing, workflow responsibilities for the computer systems within the Outreach Site network and ensure the compatibility of department systems within the network.


The Radiation Oncology Information Systems team works solely to support the complex and technologically advanced Radiation Oncology Department at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston and associated outreach sites within and outside of the Mass General Brigham network. The application Analyst II will focus on the Outreach sites outside the Mass General Brigham network. The Applications Analyst II will be part of the Radiation Oncology Team and support the cancer care provided to our patients.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with customers to define business needs, develop solutions for application, hardware and system problems, and provide appropriate feedback to customers.
  • Manage and participate in projects, system upgrades, system & interface enhancements, and hardware deployment utilizing Mass General Brigham, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Outreach site standard project lifecycle tools and activities.
  • Manage projects within the context of the larger environment with competing priorities, staffing levels, and budgetary concerns. Provide appropriate and timely problem escalation reporting to both management and project steering committee.
  • Complete work assignments in accordance with an established project timeline. Inform manager of issues requiring their direct attention.
  • Prepare written materials for use in presentations, meetings and documentation.
  • Provide on-going support of Radiation Oncology specific applications, HL7 interfaces and hardware.
  • Function both as an individual contributor and team player within the Radiation Oncology Information Systems team.
  • Collaborate with teams to align application configuration to the workflows, policies and procedures of the Radiation Oncology department and/or Outreach sites.
  • Adherence to change management policies and procedures of Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Mass General Brigham and the Outreach sites.
  • Requirements gathering (functional, system, technical, etc.) from stakeholders (customers, vendors, IT staff)
  • Adherence to the Dana Farber Cancer Institutes Project Management methodologies and procedures.
  • Provide quality customer service and serve as an exemplary representative of Mass General Brigham, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Outreach Sites and the Radiation Oncology IS team. On-going communication, feedback and follow-through with customers/peers are essential.

Application and technical support includes, but is not limited to:

  • Installing new programs and maintaining software upgrades.
  • Maintaining system dictionaries, system configurations, user accounts and security rights.
  • Training for Radiation Oncology specific applications.
  • Maintaining interfaces between Radiation Oncology specific applications and other systems.
  • Working with outside vendors for troubleshooting and technical issues.
  • Support for Radiation Oncology specific hardware (barcode printers, barcode scanners, digital cameras, scanners)

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.


  • Bachelor Degree required.

  • 5+ years experience in computer systems or healthcare information systems required.

  • Experience with clinical software support, implementation and project management in a healthcare environment preferred.

  • Clinical IS experience (preferably in Radiology or Radiation Oncology) is a plus.

  • Experience with standards such as HL7, DICOM, DICOM RT and with reporting software such as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Tableau is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Varian products and/or software is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10, MS Project and MS Office required.

Working Condititions:

  • Remote and office environment with travel between patient care areas and local outreach sites; limited patient contact. Regional travel between Collaborative sites with possible international travel as needed. Office/on site travel required as projects and support dictate.

  • On-call support as assigned (includes mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays).

  • As projects and priorities dictate, must be available to work non-standard hours such as evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.


Supervisory Responsibility:

No administrative responsibility for the work of others.

Fiscal Responsibility:

No specific fiscal responsibilities but must be conscientious about operating and capital budgets.
