Job Description
The Animal Care Assistant supports the veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring quality veterinary care for all pets, advocates for pets, educates clients on all aspects of pet health, and ensures a safe and effective hospital environment. This position is located in Van Nuys, CA.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesIndividuals must possess the knowledge, as well as the following skills and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Must have the ability to multi-task, have good communication skills, organization skills, and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Some computer skills and mathematical ability required.
  • Experience working in a fast paced clinical setting preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
Required QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Job Duty

Act as the extra eyes, ears, and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to ensure the best quality pet care and to maximize the veterinarian’s and veterinary technician’s productivity. Communicate with veterinarian, veterinary technicians, and all other associates to maintain the flow of patients.

Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service at all times. This includes performing or preparing procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance, completing preparatory work for other procedures, ensuring that clients and pets are comfortable in the hospital, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed in the state practice act.

Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper and complete medical charts.

Ensure the safety of pets, clients, and employees by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, sterile, an organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.

Duties of the Veterinary Technician are normally performed in a typical veterinary clinic, a life science laboratory, and office setting. The employee is regularly exposed to humid non-weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and must work with toxic or caustic chemicals according to institutional safety standards. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme cold. The noise level in this setting is usually moderate due to the proximity of various office machines and light office traffic.
