Global Insights, Analytics & Commercial Excellence (GIACE) is a strategic function, critical for enabling success in the growth of the BBU business. Our ambition is to build an industry-leading organization, empowering our Commercial teams through the generation of compelling evidence and insights, while ensuring they have the tools and skills to deliver impactful launches that change the practice of medicine for the benefit of patients. Within GIACE, the Insights & Analytics function is organized across three teams and supports both the US and Global organizations: Respiratory Insights, CVRM Insights (Cardiovascular, Metabolic, Renal), and the Insights & Analytics Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Insights & Analytics Centre of Excellence (I&ACoE) Overview

The aim of the Insights & Analytics Centre of Excellence is to establish industry-leading capabilities across the core areas of analytics, forecasting, reporting, business planning, and insight capabilities. It will leverage, reapply, and advance standard methodologies in capabilities and operations from Global and US more broadly across geographies. In the area of advanced analytics, the ambition is to accelerate the development and application of advanced analytic methodologies such as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to tackle business problems. The CoE also strives to scale and deploy these capabilities in a highly efficient manner so that continuous innovation can be pursued.

The Insight Teams and the CoE partner to drive portfolio and brand strategy and performance. Together we strive to uncover deep customer insights in order to drive improved decision-making and business impact. The I&A Centre of Excellence is responsible for Global and US across the BBU, and is organized around the following core capability areas:

Job description

As a Commercial Data Science Analyst at AstraZeneca, you’ll be supporting the development of powerful analytics that provide commercial teams measurable insights into commercial strategies and tactics.

This role is reserved for someone with strong analytics capabilities combined with good interpersonal skills. As such, those who will qualify for this position are both technically sound and have the ability to be a proactive internal consultant, making valuable contributions to AstraZeneca's commercial organization beyond their analytical prowess through their understanding of secondary data, industry knowledge, and track record of innovative and impactful decision support.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of the BBU core markets and their data and analytical needs.
  • Support senior data scientist in leveraging statistical modelling and AI/ML to generate insights that build a driven advantage for our commercial organization.
  • Be responsible for all the technical aspects of the modelling cycle: data sourcing and preparation, model/capability development and deployment, and insight generation.
  • Collaborate with matrix teams (sales, marketing, IT, external vendors, etc.) to ensure effective and efficient deployment of capabilities.
  • Monitor the external environment to stay up to date on leading advanced analytic capabilities, both within and outside of pharma, which can be applied within the organization.

Competencies

Essential requirements

  • 1 year of Hands-on experience in applying advanced analytics methods to large and disparate datasets, specifically:
  • Statistical Analysis and Modelling: (e.g. Design of Experiments, Time Series Analysis, Regression Analysis, Bayesian methods, etc),
  • Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Optimization and Simulation.
  • Expert-level programming experience with either Python or R.
  • Knowledge of SQL and/or other data management languages (e.g. Hive, Impala, Hbase, etc)
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and tools, such as Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, Keras and PyTorch.

Desirable Requirements
  • Pharma domain knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional business partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management; ability to handle diverse range of simultaneous projects.

Educational requirements
  • Quantitative Master’s or PhD degree from an accredited college or university is required in one of the following or related fields: Engineering, Operations Research, Management Science, Economics, Statistics, Math, Physics, Computer Science or Data Science.
