Department Profile
WM Credit evaluates credit risk transactions and approves, rejects, or modifies them considering the availability and appropriateness of arrangements for reducing risk or risk mitigation. The department also establishes and manages credit risk limits in accordance with the risk tolerance established by the Board; monitors and reports on credit risk exposures on a regular basis to the Chief Risk Officer and senior management. WM Credit also interacts with business units to ensure that credit risk assessments are factored into business decisions.
Background on the Position
Morgan Stanley Wealth Management is seeking qualified candidates for positions in WM Credit to support its securities-based lending (“SBL”) portfolio. The individual will be responsible for recommending credit decisions on large loan requests, monitoring trading activity against approved limits, reporting risk to Credit and Firm Management, and assisting in the creation/updating of Firm policies and procedures. The individual will work with and Wealth Management business counterparts as well as Operations to effectively manage the portfolio.

Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct due diligence including financial statement analysis, collateral analysis (e.g. reviewing securities portfolios), determining risk rating, etc.
- Produce high quality credit memoranda clearly outlining transaction, purpose, strengths, risks and mitigants
- Make approval or decline recommendations to credit approvers. Articulate recommendation in a clear, concise and informed manner.
- Demonstrate acceptable level of preparation and knowledge.
- Manage all loan requests within stated turn times unless justified as an exception.
- Provide credit support to financial advisors nationwide
- Work closely with the business units/operational staff in assessing risk due to market changes
- Work closely with field sales on large loan transactions and escalations
- Provide assistance to credit partners for bank products when applicable
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills Required (essential)- Credit and financial statement analysis
- Strong internal and external customer focus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work on multiple tasks accurately and with attention to detail in a fast paced, demanding environment
- Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- High energy level and the ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
- Working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel (Strong Excel, VBA and Microsoft Access a plus)
- Previous experience (2-3 years) in Finance or Credit Risk
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
