We are currently recruiting for Youth Program / Education Assistant I's at Central Regional Hospital (CRH). The Youth Program Education Assistant I (YPEA I) provides specialized direct care services to extremely behaviorally challenged children, youth and young adults in the forms of behavioral programming, facilitating training/activities and assisting with health care needs, etc. Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assistance in classroom programming
  • Role-modeling
  • On-the-spot counseling and decision-making
  • Transportation
  • Crisis intervention
  • Self-help
  • Communication
  • Activities of daily living
  • Health promotion from minimal levels of assistance to extensive supervision to protect individuals from injuring themselves or others.
  • Provide quality care while implementing therapeutic, behavioral and education interventions in a safe environment for children, youth and young adults.
There are multiple positions and shifts available.

Shifts available are:
  • First Shift: 7:00a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Second Shift: 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
  • Third Shift: 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Shifts include alternating weekends holidays as scheduled. These positions are expected to report to work as scheduled during inclement weather. These are full-time positions and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement.

Salary Grade: GN05
Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $44,091

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they clearly possess all of the following:


  • Must proficiently speak and write in English.
  • Position requires a valid unexpired driver license.
  • Applicant must be NA I certified by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. If applicants are not NA I certified, training will be offered, however certification must be obtained, and applicant must pass and maintain all facility required training as a condition of employment.
  • Applicant must also obtain and maintain certifications in NVCI/APT/CPR and Fire Safety and complete all other training required by the facility as a condition of employment.
Management Preference:
  • Previous experience in the care of emotionally, handicapped or mentally challenged children/youth that have the potential to be physically or verbally assaultive and aggressive.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement treatment and behavioral plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Childhood and Adolescent psychiatric or development disorders.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution;
or
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications: As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care.

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
