The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

Overseeing a small team of web developers, the Web Content & Digital Strategy Manager will work with dozens of content owners and website administrators who contribute to the university website’s more than 5,000 pages to provide insight, direction and training on best practices for web content. In addition, the manager will drive content strategy and write copy for top-tier pages of the site, make recommendations for data-driven template and navigation updates, and assist content owners with information architecture design and content strategy. This will be done in consideration of the goals of the university website: to improve the reputation of and drive recruitment for the institution. Additionally, the manager oversees the direction, development, design and content for WCU.edu and affiliate sites. He/She provides strategy for the development and dissemination of content and collaborates with designers, photographers, videographers, and writers to translate UCM projects to digital spaces with a focus on SEO and user experience. Supports ADA compliancy with Policy 86/ADA/504 by creation inclusive, accessible experiences within wcu.edu with a focus on web accessibility.

The Web Content & Digital Strategy Manager will report to the Executive Director of University Marketing. The manager will collaborate closely with the Social Media Manager, Creative & Brand Team, Communications and Public Relations and the Office of Web Services within the Division of IT.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this PositionRequirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, information systems or a related field.
  • 7+ years experience working in communications or marketing with a significant focus in digital communications. A master’s degree in an appropriate field may substitute for 2 of the required years of experience.
  • 3+ years experience writing for web and working within a content management system.
  • 3+ years managing projects within an organization, including implementation of large-scale initiatives with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience creating content plans and calendars.
  • Experience developing websites to support marketing and communication goals.
  • Experience overseeing web implementations from strategy development through information architecture, design, development and launch.
  • Experience and/or training in search engine optimization strategies, including the ability to read and analyze Google analytics.
  • Basic understanding of HTML.
  • Experience leading a team and working with or overseeing content on a large-scale site with multiple editors and content owners.
  • Understanding of relationships between web content and social media strategy, including setting up meta data for content sharing.
  • Ability to drive collaboration among stakeholders toward common website goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be
received from appropriately accredited institutions.



Preferred QualificationsPreferred experience
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, large government agencies, publicly traded companies or other industries with diverse stakeholders, complicated regulations and a wide range of products and audiences.
  • Experience with a large-scale enterprise level website redesign
  • Demonstrated ability to write SEO-driven content, including basic understanding of keyword research.
