The Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) is Carrboro-Chapel Hill’s not-for-profit public service agency delivering high-quality water, wastewater, and reclaimed water services. Our team seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Water Supply and Treatment Manager tolead our Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant team. OWASA is a leader in the utility industry; the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant is a recipient of the Partnership for Safe Water’s Excellence in Water Treatment Award for the past nine years.

The Water Supply and Treatment Manager isdirectly responsible for overseeing and managing the operation, including the maintenance, laboratory, source water, forest management, and recreation functions of the water treatment department.

Key responsibilities include:

· Maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including preparing and maintaining a variety of required reports

· Acting as the operator-in-responsible-charge (ORC) for the water treatment plant

· Providing leadership and developmental coaching to a staff of 22 employees; ensuring performance expectations are met

· Maintaining good relationships with community neighbors and continuing our strong partnership with stakeholders

· Monitoring and recognizing operational needs

· Setting protocols and continuing to provide high-quality drinking water

· Developing and managing the operational budget for the facility

· Supporting the mission and strategic direction of the organization

The ideal candidate shall be an action-oriented strategic thinker with exceptional communication and leadership skills. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, as is the ability to lead the team to fulfill the mission and goals of the organization while ensuring safe work practices are followed. Must be a trusted steward of the environment and an innovative problem solver. A service-oriented attitude, professionalism, and a passion to foster a diverse and inclusive work environment are necessary.

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, biology, environmental science, or a related field with five to seven years of progressive water operations and supervisory experience. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain the NC Grade A Surface Operators Certification, Grade C Well Operator Certification, Grade I Treatment System and Physical Chemical Operator Certification. A valid NC Driver’s License is required for this position.

Salary range is $84,314 - $129,845
