Position Summary Information Job Description Summary The School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture at Auburn University invites applications for four Visiting Assistant Professor positions in Architecture with teaching responsibilities centered in design studio as well as a specialized topic area, commencing 16 August 2022.
The School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture (APLA) has a 115-year history of educating architects, interior architects, landscape architects and planners. The school contributes to the region and to the profession through its outreach, scholarship and creative work. APLA includes four allied disciplines: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Environmental Design, and Landscape Architecture, and offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree options. APLA resides in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction along with the School of Industrial and Graphic Design and the McWhorter School of Building Science.
The Architecture program seeks candidates who are interested in building upon and extending the school’s tradition of teaching and learning through design, visualization, theorization, fabrication and construction.
Candidates should have a commitment to teaching design studios, ranging from beginning design to thesis, as well as well as significant knowledge in one or more of the following topic areas:
Architectural Technology (with particular interest in environmental and/or structural systems integration, environmental performance modeling & simulation, or materials and methods)
Advanced Digital Media (both theory and practice, including parametric design and/or fabrication)
Beginning Design (hand drawings as well as digital media)
Candidates will be expected to continue and/or develop an active program of scholarly and creative work within the discipline which will be supported by the Architecture program. The primary responsibility of a successful candidate for this position is to teach undergraduate architecture studios, lecture courses, and seminars/workshops in one of the topic areas above. APLA is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, outreach, and service. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications At the time employment begins candidates must hold a PhD, Master of Architecture, or a Bachelor of Architecture plus a terminal degree in a related field, must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States, and be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Desired Qualifications Additional desired qualifications are: demonstrated ability to teach design studio and related courses in a professional degree program, evidence of outstanding design skills, evidence of research/creative scholarship, or the ability to develop and maintain an active research/creative scholarly program, a professional license in Architecture, or completion of the experience requirements of the AXP program.
