Job Profile Summary: Acts as the Chief Nursing Officer for a mid-sized Catholic hospital with revenues typically in the greater than $150,000 range in a growing and dynamic community. Role oversees nursing services for all areas, including a level 3 trauma Emergency Department, Family Birth level 2 nursery, Cancer Center, and Special Care Unit. Assures staff, the patient delivery model, and supporting systems and processes all provide excellent nursing care that is cost-effective, appropriate, and continually evaluated and improved. Ensures the quality of nursing standards of care and practice by incorporating shared governance, current nursing research findings and nationally recognized professional standards into the policies and procedures governing the provisions of nursing care, treatment and services. Provides leadership to all disciplines engaged directly or indirectly in the care of patients and families. Advances strategic planning initiatives that are consistent with the organization’s goals, ensuring responsive systems and proper resources are available to support the work. Additionally, the role is accountable for the patient experience and serves as a patient advocate, assuring customer requirements and feedback are utilized effectively to manage the experience of care.

Principle Responsibilities
- Provides operations leadership for designated programs/services, nursing practice and innovation in patient care delivery
- Fosters a learning environment demonstrated by the presence of participative decision-making structures where decisions are made as close to the work as possible; key stakeholder group involvement in decisions that impact them; communication that is open, honest and pervasive.
- Supports a multi-disciplinary, cross-boundary approach to optimal patient care outcomes.
- Demonstrates patient care evaluation, development and innovation through effective patient care delivery and management systems that are integrated and linked across the patient care continuum.
- Establishes, manages and approves nursing standards for patient care, nursing practice and policies and procedures to guide the provision of nursing care.
- Integrates theory and research based practice to enhance patient care outcomes and advance nursing practice.
- Leads a professional practice vision and structure to enhance patient care practice throughout the organization (nursing and other clinical disciplines).
- Integrates clinical and patient care system expertise into decision making at the senior leadership level.
- Meets annual financial targets while supporting quality patient care.
- Ensures adequate staffing for patient care needs in accordance with standards of practice and union contracts.
- Integrates quality, safety and risk management planning with nursing practice planning and patient care delivery planning.
- Leads and maintains ongoing quality monitoring and improvement activities.
- Demonstrates intensive service improvement planning and execution.
- Collaborates with leadership, care providers, and key stakeholders to demonstrate commitment to continual quality improvement in multidisciplinary patient care services.
- Uses quality improvement processes to maintain high patient satisfaction levels.
- Ensures the hospitals Plan for Provision of Care is demonstrated in day to day operations.
- Demonstrates skills in Program Leadership.
- Conducts strategic planning that is future-oriented and based on environmental assessment, business opportunities and desired outcomes.
- Demonstrates leadership in product line strategy and business plan development which supports adaptability in the marketplace and meets the community’s changing needs.
- Demonstrates effective leadership through measurable outcomes, achievement of business plan goals and optimal volume and market share.
- Develops new programs and enhances existing programs and services.
- Develops effective partnership and relationships.
- Communicates effectively and partners with leaders, physicians, managers, employees, labor partners, and key stakeholder groups to establish and maintain strong relationships, shared interests and common goals.
- Provides patient care leadership for Allina Nurse Executive Committee and other identified system-wide, clinical and organization programs.
- Develops labor management partnerships resulting in positive working relationships and negotiation outcomes.
- Collaborates in developing and evaluating recruitment and retention programs for nursing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Master's degree in nursing, business healthcare administration or equivalent required
- 7+ years Nursing Leadership experience required
- 10 to 15 years progressive nursing and interdisciplinary management required
- Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required
- Nurse Executive Advanced Certification preferred
