Vice President of Marketing and Community Relations

At UMCU the Vice President of Marketing and Community Relations leads the team and strategy in order to enhance the member experience, increase membership growth, increase product and service engagement and continue to build the brand of the credit union. This includes developing the individuals of the marketing team, promoting creativity, increasing our brand awareness, deepening existing member relationships, cultivating new business for the credit union and planning and implementing public relations programs. Creates awareness and drives business through multi-channel promotions and media placement including but not limited to website, social media platforms, billboards and mobile/digital. What else you’ll be doing in this role:- Leads and coaches the marketing team which includes but is not limited to performance management, development, selection, retention, recognition and engagement. Promotes creativity amongst all team members.
- Develops and executes annual marketing plans and establishes marketing objectives to achieve UMCU’s strategic direction and goals.
- Oversees the development and design of strategies and materials to enhance the member experience, increase member engagement and protect the UMCU brand in the marketplace across all media and channels, with an emphasis on digital and social media. Strategies to include both consumer brand and employer brand concepts.
- Develops unique and targeted strategies for the UMCU web site, social media and digital channels to enhance the consumer experience and build the UMCU brand.
- Ensures alignment with vision, direction and decision making in all marketing programs and brand awareness efforts; develops and oversees effective advertising and promotion activities including social media, print, electronic, and direct mail outlets.
- Collaborates with all departments and team members across the credit union for a thorough integration of the member experience and marketing strategies in the operations of the credit union; provides effective internal communication regarding all marketing and community relations activities that impact team members.
- Ensures all marketing campaigns, promotions and communications are coordinated across all channels and support the marketing plan objectives.
- Continually evaluates and utilizes existing customer/member data to design strategies and efforts to enhance the individual relationships and increase product penetration.
- Establishes and utilizes mechanisms for member and team member feedback, such as focus groups, surveys, etc.
- Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the market; gathers and analyzes information to identify new markets and customers, demand for products and services, and efficacy of existing marketing campaigns and strategies.
- Identifies needs for new products and services and makes recommendations to leadership; collaborates in the development of new products and services.
- Oversees, creates, develops financial education courses and delivers to the community.
- Evaluates competitor strategies across all media channels and plans counter-strategies.
- Provides reporting metrics to demonstrate effectiveness of marketing programs and promotions through all and reacts accordingly.
- Develops, maintains strong and long-term relationships and represents UMCU with our member organizations including, but not limited to the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College.
- Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with UMCU strategic partners and support vendors. Negotiates contracts accordingly.
- Creates and manages the marketing and the community relations budget.
- Participates in local and statewide marketing/advertising forums and on local and statewide marketing/advertising committees.
- Maintains industry knowledge and professional relationships by attending marketing and/or credit union professional group functions and educational seminars, reading industry publications and developing industry specific professional networks.
- Serves as a volunteer within the University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College and Ann Arbor Communities and represents the Credit Union at various functions.
- Will follow all credit union policies and procedures, including compliance with Bank Secrecy, Anti-Money Laundering, Customer Identification Program, and OFAC policies.

- 5 years management experience and 10+ years marketing experience; preferably with financial institution with $500 million to $1 billion in assets or the equivalent size company in another industry
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent presentation skills
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time
