The Vice President & Chief Development Officer (CDO) is responsible to plan and implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization. In addition, the position will be responsible for writing, reporting, and monitoring expenditures and compliance for NHS’s government, foundation, community, and corporate grants. The CDO will oversee contract grants and communications (both internal and external) related to those grants as well as NHS and its effects. The CDO will lead a collaborative effort charged with the management of day-to-day fundraising and communications and providing a dynamic integrated program. The ideal candidate works collaboratively and maintains clear and regular communications with the senior operations team, community partners, and donors. The Chief Development Officer will also oversee the Development Office, which has functional responsibility for Marketing and Communications; Strategic Partnerships; Grants Writing and Management and Investments. Requirements:


  • Works with the President/ CEO to determine funding; marketing and communications; policy and research; strategic partnerships; and community building and educations priorities of NHS.
  • Partners with the President/CEO to support the efforts of the Center(s) for Sustainable Communities;
  • Sets annual monetary goals and budgets according to short- and long-term goals.
  • Establishes fundraising objectives for the organization, setting one year, three-year, five year, and longer-term goals.
  • Manage market research studies and analyze the results in order to better understand the market and trends.
  • Maintains a list of potential financial donors including government, corporations, foundations, investors and individuals.
  • Produces relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous donors and the public.
  • Researches potential sources of, and applies for, grants and public funding.
  • Oversees the fundraising process and maintains records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
  • Develops and maintains the NHS narrative to key stakeholders.
  • Plans fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
