We are one of the largest national non-profit organizations that rescues, raises, trains and donates highly skilled medical service dogs to veterans, first responders and some civilians. We are currently looking for a full-time candidate for our headquarters in Williston, Florida that will be responsible for assisting in our Veterinary Care Department. You would need to be knowledgeable and able to speak in an educated, professional and compassionate manner with our disabled recipients that may have health questions/concerns about their service dog.

This position will work primarily outdoors, 5 days a week for 40 hours. Hours may vary depending on the needs of the organization. Employee will be expected to oversee the health care of all dogs which includes monitoring proper weights, running and reading fecal flotations, administering vaccinations and preventatives, carrying out any necessary treatments, feeding and cleaning post-op and/or other assigned dog areas. This position works closely with the National Veterinary Care Director. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 5 years or more of veterinary technician experience, and veterinary record keeping. The candidate will also be professional, dependable, trustworthy, hardworking, friendly and maintain a professional demeanor. Veterinary Technician License is preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Surgical post operative care for dogs (checking incisions and administering all necessary medications and treatments)
  • Administer all required oral and topical medications and preventatives to all dogs as needed
  • Collecting and reading fecals
  • Following and administering all vaccination and deworming protocols
  • Walking all yards five days a week to observe weights, and any other possible impending medical issues
  • Weighing all dogs monthly
  • Promptly respond to trainers and dog care specialists who express concerns in a dog’s health
  • Knowledgeable in nutrition, preventative care, post operative care, lab work, breeding, whelping and all additional aspects of dog care from birth to adult
  • Be able to manage and train apprentices on proper protocols
  • Keep the National Veterinary Care Director informed on all dog related health issues and concerns
  • Be hard working, not afraid to get dirty and can work in any outdoor conditions, such as, rain, heat, and cold
  • Exceptional at following instructions
  • Be meticulous and organized with work execution and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Keep detailed documentation of all health records and conversations with recipients
  • Be punctual
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, this includes, weekends, holidays, sudden schedule changes, overnights, etc.
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must love dogs
