Overview of Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist Duties and Responsibilities
- Cleaning and sanitizing areas of the hospital
- Assist in holding and restraining animals
- Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and tools
- Ensure exam and operating rooms are stocked
- Assist vet with surgical procedures
- Ensure all cages and kennels are clean
- Administer medications
- Assist in collecting samples such as blood or urine for testing
- Educate owners about animal health, conditions, and proper care
- Light reception duties on occasion
- Greeting patients and Owners
- Weighting animals
- Answering phones
- Scheduling appointments
- Processing payments
- Communicating between clients and staff
Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist Requirements and Qualifications
- One year previous experience in animal care
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Basic understanding of animal behavior and health care
- Interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage numerous different patient needs
- Physical ability to restrain larger pets when necessary
- Able to work weekends, extended hours, and holidays

- Answering and routing phone calls
