Shelton Health and Rehabilitation Center is accepting applications for an as needed driver/transport specialist. The successful candidate will be under the direct supervision of the Executive Director (ED) and will function according to specific processes, incumbent is responsible for the safe, timely, and reliable transportation of Center residents, staff, and persons being transported to and from the Center. Driver demonstrates safe resident transfers as well as safe driving skills, and the highest level of professional demeanor and presentation. This is a great position for someone looking to make a little extra income but not looking for full time employment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Maintain safe and courteous motor vehicle operation in compliance with applicable laws.
- Perform safe transfer of residents from bed to chair, chair to bed.
- Perform safe loading and unloading of residents to and from transport van.
- Secure residents in the van with wheelchair wheel locks, seat belts, and other safety straps or tie downs prior to movement of the vehicle.
- Accurate reporting of resident name and mileage traveled during transports in a prescribed manner.
- Communicate effectively with Center staff regarding transport schedules and appointments so that appointments are not missed or forgotten.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections to maintain safe operation of the vehicle. The reporting format is prescribed and submitted as scheduled. Unsafe vehicle conditions or new damage is reported to the ED immediately.
- Report vehicle accidents, traffic citations, or incidents immediately and complete required reports.
- Immediately report falls or other incidents to residents or passengers of the vehicle utilizing the prescribed Center forms.
- Display a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor to residents, families, co-workers, and referral source employees.
- Maintain the confidentiality of resident medical records and history when interacting with non-medical personnel or interacting with referral source staff in public areas.
- Keep the exterior of the transport vehicle clean. Maintain enough gasoline in the tank to reach the next available gas station pump.
- Maintain the interior of the vehicle so that the following concerns are always in order:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Able to read, write, and speak the English language at a level that permits the effective interpretation and communication of medical records and resident needs during a transport.
- Demonstrates safe transfer skills per Center’s Rehabilitation Manager.
- Demonstrates ability to correctly use safety straps, seat belts, and other mobility equipment on the van.
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and has an acceptable driving record that does not include multiple accidents, moving violations, or serious offenses.
