User Experience Designer, Hearst Newspapers

Hearst Newspapers is seeking a user experience designer to join its Experience Design team.

The UX designer will work closely with design, product, and engineering teams on all aspects of the digital newspapers business. In particular, the designer will elevate the experience of Hearst’s marketing technology solutions, including subscription and identity management platforms. This person will also have an opportunity to contribute to a design system that powers reader experiences on Hearst’s apps and websites.

The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience in interaction design or user experience design, is comfortable presenting and defending recommendations to stakeholders, is willing to work in close collaboration with product and engineering teams, and is excited about solving UX problems through testing and iteration.

Responsibilities

Design highly usable experiences to remove hurdles in identity and subscription management flows.

Identify pain points in existing experiences across all of Hearst’s user-facing platforms.

Design highly scalable and repeatable solutions for reader engagement on Hearst’s websites and apps.

Help maintain and evolve Hearst Newspapers’ design system and product design language.

Validate assumptions and hypotheses through research and usability testing, and present and defend designs and concepts to product

stakeholders.

Articulate requirements through the use of wireframes, prototypes, and dev-ready designs.

Execute detailed and thoughtful designs, inclusive of user states and error handling. Exceptional attention to detail; able to deliver polished, organized, and clean design files for use in software development.

An Ideal Candidate has the following qualities:

Ability to handle projects from concept to completion.

Willingness to partner and collaborate with Engineering and QA teams to bring experiences to life

Is organized, able to act independently, and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced environment

Has basic knowledge of front-end web programming languages, including html, CSS and javascript.

Is comfortable with design and prototyping software (sketch, figma, invision, etc)

Experience with user testing tools

Experience designing ecommerce flows

Knowledge of web accessibility best practices

Willingness to take risks and a hunger to shape the future of news.
