Utility Operations Technician II - Fleet Management Repair & Maintenance (Galveston) Details

Perform journeyman level operation of equipment and machinery in the utilities plant. Maintain the necessary technical skills to repair, maintain, inspect, and operate Utilities production equipment, distribution system, and energy management equipment. Acts as the lead shift operator and assist the shift supervisor in operating and troubleshooting plant equipment and distribution of chilled water, hot water, steam to campus.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinates activities of the Fleet Service Center including maintaining computer database for 180+ Institutional vehicles
  • Performs general maintanance/repair work on vehicles and coordinates offsite repair work
  • Maintains Service Center Inventory
  • Proactively maintains all aspects assigned to the UTMB Fleet Garage
  • Consults with customers on priority of work, repair stats and vehicle problems or breakdown
  • Performs detailed inspections of vehicles for proper operation and performs proactive repairs before vehicle failure occurs
  • Informs supervisory and managerial personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies and takes appropriate action
  • Identifies maintenance needs and sets quarterly and annual schedule for all UTMB vehicles and maintains schedule with up-to-date status
  • Works with Information Technology to keep Fleet software programs current and functioning
  • Monitors fuel levels and alarm for the UST and orders fuel as needed
  • Participates in disaster response as essential personnel
  • Attends all staff meetings and completes required training and certification

Working Environment:

  • Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards.

Preferred License/Certificate:

Preferred candidate to have ASE Master Mechanic and State Vehicle Inspector Certification

Salary Range:

From $46,400 To $60,000 Annually


Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent, at least 3 years of experience operating HVAC/Power Generation equipment, and hold a valid Class C Driver’s license with a driving record less than 4 incidence points. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services. This job requires that the employee lift up to 50 pounds, floor to knuckle and 50 pounds, knuckle to shoulder and requires frequent bending, standing and walking.
