Full Time, 36 hours/week.

Pay rate is between $15 per hour and $20.92 per hour, depending on years of relevant and like experience. There is an additional $2.50 per hour for working weekend shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Urgent Care tech supports nursing in the delivery of patient care within the Urgent Care (UC) setting. The tech provides direct patient care and admissions support. They are responsible for documentation, order entry, stocking/unit supplies and patient transportation within building or to and from car as required. The tech performs interventions under the direction of the NP (Nurse Practitioner) within the legal limits of their certification. The tech greets all patients and visitors as needed, initiates a brief history, and vital signs. In collaboration with the NP’s, the tech will assist with prioritization of patient flow from the waiting room to the patient care area. The Urgent Care Tech will also function in the role of unit coordinator when directed by the NP to ensure efficient patient flow of the Urgent Care.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) with IV Certification.

or

Third year Nursing student who has completed their IV training and satisfactorily completed a class in medication administration.

or

Licensed Practical Nurse

Special Qualifications (licensure, registration, etc.

Able to work cooperatively with other people and without direct supervision.

Must be able to work under pressure and prioritize patient care and handle duties with organization and accuracy.

Must present a neat and professional appearance and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required by the end of conditional period.

Colorado State Emergency Medical Technician license or national Emergency Medical Technician certification or Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

Proficient in use of a PC (Personal Computer).

Able to type at least 35 wpm.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Exemplifies ENCORE! values.

Ability to interact with all age groups.

Demonstrates positive interpersonal and communication skills in working with the public, other UC staff, and throughout Boulder Community Hospital.

Utilizes standard precautions.

Confidence in basic life support skills.

Organizes and prioritizes work under pressure.

Is physically capable of assisting with lifting and moving patients and/or heavy objects.

Experience

Three months of patient care experience in the hospital, Emergency Department, or Urgent Care settings preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Sits and stands for extended periods of time exceeding 30 minutes.

Walks up to 75 feet.

Bending and stooping required for patient care and stocking.

Lift files and supplies generally not exceeding 25 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch, and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat, and sit.

The employee must be able to consistently support, push, pull, and/or be able to lift up-to10 pounds, frequently support, push, pull, and/or lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally support, push, pull, and/or transfer up to 50 pounds (for example, moving a patient from a wheelchair to a bed).

Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and reaching. The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell, and touch.
