Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks a full-time teacher for the 2021-2022 school year in the Upper School History Department to fill the Señora Guillermina Medrano de Supervia Endowed Faculty Chair for Spanish and Latin American Studies. The Señora Guillermina Medrano de Supervia Faculty Chair will have the following responsibilities: Applicants must possess a graduate degree in History, Spanish Language Studies, Latin American Studies or a related field and teaching experience, preferably at the high school level. A deep understanding of Spanish and Latin American history and culture is required, as well as fluency in Spanish. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and independently in an environment committed to academic excellence, equity, justice, service, and students’ social emotional wellness. An appreciation for adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential. The most desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms for remote instruction as well as proven effectiveness as a classroom teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting. Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this position requires teaching in person.
