POSITION SUMMARY: Directly supervise assigned hourly personnel and motivate, organize, coordinate, plan and control their performance and activities to ensure the manufacture of product to meet customer quality specifications and delivery requirements at the lowest possible cost. Develop the skills of all employees to create and promote an environment of involvement and continuous improvement. Must have experience supervising employees in a manufacturing facility. Experience with Union workforce is a plus!!!!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead, monitor, direct, and control all available resources (work force, machines, etc.) to ensure full utilization so that needs, goals, and objectives of the business are met.
- Coordinate with all service functions (production control, maintenance, engineering, etc.) to ensure the support required by the manufacturing effort.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate the daily activities of hourly employees assigned to achieve a quality product at the lowest possible cost.
- Ensure employees are instructed and trained to accurately report their daily activities.
- Enforce work rules. Council, discipline, and reprimand employees if required. Maintain written records.
- Plan and assign overtime work and maintain overtime rotation list.
- Ensure a safe work place through enforcement of safety rules, instruction of employees in safety procedures and rules, and timely response to potential or actual hazards. Complete accident reports.
- Ensure that the proper types of quantities of tools, supplies, materials, and equipment are available to perform the required work to specifications and standards.
- Ensure employees are properly instructed in the quality specifications of their operation and ensure items produced meet specifications in the required quantities.
- Ensure that operations are performed and material is properly identified.
- Cooperate with production control and manufacturing in the scheduling of jobs and equipment. Make recommendations that may improve performance.
- Assist engineering in the development of new programs and make recommendations.
- Continually look for means or methods that will reduce cost and/or improve quality.
- Maintain warehouse tooling and keep records of tooling location.
- Maintain all crib tooling and order tooling for the tool supply crib as required.
- Communicate with all levels of the organization concerning capabilities, performance and needs of the work group required to meet business goals and objectives.
- Direct vendor and customer contacts as required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Possess technical knowledge of manufacturing processes to include the build and repair of tooling and dies. Requires excellent leadership and communications skills, and the ability to work with people to promote an environment of involvement and continuous improvement.
EDUCATION: High school graduate with certification in advanced machining skills or successful completion of a tool and die apprenticeship. Experience in a tool room environment in a manufacturing facility is a plus. A minimum of 3 years of industrial/shop experience in a tool and die department with supervisory experience. Formal technical/college education beyond high school preferred.
