JOB DESCRIPTION
The relief foreman is the manager and shift supervisor’s top assistant on each shift in providing leadership to the production department. The relief foreman ensures that all production department employees are properly trained are working safely and that all employees are following all food safety and personal hygiene practices. The relief foreman informs the shift supervisor of any non-standard condition along with recommendations for corrective actions. The relief foreman is expected to make accurate and timely decisions quickly on an on-going basis during their shift The relief foreman position is an appointed one and is not subject to the bid process in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Safety is the responsibility of all Ventura Coastal manufacturing employees. All Ventura Coastal manufacturing employees must be aware of CCPs in their area and how to document them appropriately. All staff must report food safety and quality problems to their immediate supervisor in charge during their shift.- Train new employees in the safe, quality-oriented operation of production equipment and systems.
- Alert the production supervisor of any non-standard conditions and includes solutions to fix the problem(s).
- Ensure that products are being produced in accordance with customer specifications.
- Complete shift paperwork and documentation as necessary. Ensure that all operator logs are complete, accurate and timely.
- Monitor plant sanitation and ensure proper procedures are followed
- Promote safety in the department and ensure that production personnel adhere to all regulations including the wearing of all personal protective equipment.
- Run product out in advance of CIP
- Effectively carries out programmed production schedules.
- Relieve operators to include Control Room/Pulp Pasteurizer, Evaporator, Juice Room, Packaging, Weighmaster, and Aseptic Tank Farm for unpaid meal periods, paid breaks and to cover emergency or non-standard conditions.as needed.
- Ensure that all production personnel are following all food safety/quality and personal hygiene practices.
- Act professionally towards customers, vendors and guests who visit the plant.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor which may include working as a level IV, V, or level VI operator for unplanned events such as breakdowns or emergency adjustments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Basic computer skills such as the ability to operate a touch screen.- Possess a valid fork lift license or the ability to obtain one.
- General oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of citrus manufacturing equipment.
- The ability to meet flexile and changing priorities and schedules.
- The ability to work daily, non-scheduled and scheduled overtime as needed.
- At least three (3) years of citrus manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to meet flexible and changing priorities and the ability to work under pressure is a must.- 90% walking on uneven, and often wet and/or slippery surfaces in a plant environment
- 10% normal office environment at a desk or working at a computer terminal.
- May be required to lift up to 50lbs. on occasion.
- Must possess the dexterity to climb stairs and ladders on a routine basis
- Must possess the ability and the dexterity to visually examine employees and working conditions at the second level above the ground floor of the plant on a regular basis
