The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a PT Truck Driver position for the Frederick, MD Family Store under the Potomac Division.
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Corps Officer, the Truck Driver drives Salvation Army trucks along scheduled routes to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers; Operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations; Lifts, carries, loads, and unloads various donations to include furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.; Ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times. When not on pickups or deliveries, performs other duties in the thrift store and warehouse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High School Diploma/GED preferred but not required; one (1) year experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van such as a box truck; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver's License, required.
Must pass The Salvation Army Risk Management guidelines for operating a TSA vehicle (MVR Clearance).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the assigned geographical area.
Ability to organize pick-up tickets and to schedule route in a manner that saves time and gasoline consumption.
Ability to work effectively, independently, and cooperatively with co-workers.
Knowledge of warehouse operations.
Employees in this position must meet all DOT requirements for vehicle’s associated with this position at all times.
Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck.
Physical, Mental Requirements
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing carrying objects up or down stairs.
Ability to lift objects using proper lifting technics.
Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (over 50lbs +.) materials, supplies and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
Working Conditions
Work requires driving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Work is also performed in a stock room, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather. There are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors, and the like.
