Position Summary: The Transportation Aide assures the safe transportation of passengers to and from various destinations, assists passengers on entry and exit from vehicles and follows guidelines for safely securing passengers, wheelchairs, cargo, etc.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Be knowledgeable about daily route assignments.
  • Maintain a clean vehicle.
  • Exercise particular caution when passengers are getting on or off the vehicle.
  • Administer first aid to passengers if needed.
  • Follows guidelines and all procedures for safely securing passengers, wheelchairs and cargo, securing tie down as trained.
  • Ensure that client care providers, parents or adult day program staff - and your supervisor are contacted if resident will be picked up or dropped off 10 or more minutes later than indicated on route timelines.
  • Maintain safety awareness while in-route and while loading/unloading passengers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation.
  • Report to Transportation Manager/Dispatcher any observations that would affect passengers safety or health
  • Completes all records documenting care/services provided or other information in keeping with agency policies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Equipment/Machines:

  • Employees must maintain the skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate the following equipment and machines used in the performance of this job.
  • Ability to operate telephone, cell phone, push to talk units, two-way radios and GPS.
  • Mechanical lifts, wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, adjustable chairs/beds.
  • Ability to use computer software for documentation and communication upon request

  • Supports and participates in common teamwork:
  • Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plans and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
  • Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Follows-up, as appropriate, with supervisor, co-workers or consumers regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Promotes positive public relations with consumers, family members, guests, and government representatives.
  • Completes requirements for training, acceptable attendance, dress codes, including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
  • Use computer software for documentation, scheduling, training and communication.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience providing services to persons with developmental, learning or physical disabilities preferred but not required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification required within 90 days of employment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test within 24 hours of a job offer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment health screening/TB Test; and annually thereafter.
  • Have a criminal records clearance from DHS and/or DSS (Live Scan fingerprinting).
  • Must complete all other required new hire training including CPR/First Aid.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of consumer Protected Health Information (PHI) used for treatment, payment, health care, etc. and personal information of consumers.

Work Schedule: Mon Fri; possible split shift and special events as needed.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly and frequently required to perform physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, carrying, lifting, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling.
  • The employee will be requiring assisting with lifting, moving and transferring residents to and from vehicles and wheelchairs, as necessary, and will occasionally be required to lift up to 51 lbs.
  • Work involves a significant amount of locomotion on ground and in moving vehicle.
  • Must have good vision and hearing.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.50 per hour
