SHINE Therapeutics is looking to add undergraduate students to our growing team, dedicated to the development of lutetium-177 for cancer therapies for the spring/summer 2021 semester. These positions are an excellent opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career or gaining further experience in the nuclear or pharmaceutical industries. You will have the opportunity to work on novel medical isotope production processes, as well as apply concepts and theory from classes to assist other engineers and scientists with the experimental design and performance of real-world testing applications. Engineering Intern

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Co-development of test plans and experimental procedures; providing input and ideas for experimental design.
  • Participation in the performance of process development testing and experiments with SHINE scientists and engineers.
  • Assisting with setup, validation, and operation of analytical testing equipment.
  • Participating in routine testing, preventative and ongoing maintenance, and troubleshooting of system hardware components under the supervision of SHINE scientists and engineers.
  • Assisting in the design and fabrication of process equipment.
  • Following test procedures and recording experimental results.
  • Draft reports summarizing experimental data and outcomes.
  • Responsibilities will depend on the interests and skills of the candidate to ensure the best learning opportunity and experience.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Junior or Senior in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics/Engineering Physics, or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, listening, writing) and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work at least 20 hours per week during the semester, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer and/or other extended break periods.
  • Willingness to learn and understand new technologies and processes.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and accurately record and organize data.
  • Ability to learn and work safely in chemical and radiation environments.
  • Basic understanding of (and ability to adhere to) good laboratory and safety practices.
  • Prior experience in research or other laboratory settings (strongly preferred).
  • Strong technical writing skills (preferred).

Chemical Technician Intern

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily checks of critical equipment, such as balances and micropipettes.
  • Washing and polishing glassware for use in trace analysis.
  • Assist in the setup, validation, and operation of experiment and testing equipment.
  • Participate in the performance of testing and experiments under the guidance of R&D scientists and engineers.
  • Participate in the performance of both routine and unexpected maintenance and equipment troubleshooting under the guidance of R&D scientists and engineers.
  • Assist in data analysis from experimental results.
  • Responsibilities will depend on the interests and skills of the candidate to ensure the best learning opportunity and experience.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate student majoring in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or other related degree.
  • Students in at least their Junior year of coursework.
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week concurrent with coursework, up to 40 hours during the summer and other breaks.
  • Willingness to learn and understand good laboratory practices as well as new technologies and processes.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and accurately record test data.
  • Ability to learn and work safely in chemical and radiation environments.
  • Prior experience in research or other laboratory settings is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical writing skills are preferred.
