JOB SUMMARY: Arrange for the efficient and orderly admission of inpatients and admission of individuals who have outpatient appointments, testing or procedures. Pre-screen patients or visitors for COVID symptoms. Ensures that the patient’s information is collected, entered into hospital computer system accurately, and that all patients are aware of clinic & hospital policies and procedures. Appropriately gathers direction from providers for questionable COVID symptoms.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Admissions Front Desk Clerk Pre-Screenings:

1. Responsible for check patients and pre-screening for fever >100.0° F, cough, nausea vomiting, and/or diarrhea, unexplained loss of sense of smell and/or taste, muscle aches, shortness of breath, sore throat. Keeps current with any changing protocol.
2. Responsible for obtaining signature from visitors for denial of COVID symptoms.
3. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the supervisor, nurse managers, coworkers and physicians.
4. Responsible for knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services that are available.
5. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.
6. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of patients’ records.
7. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
8. Participates in the educational program, completes annual educational requirements, and attends in-service meetings as required.
9. Attends all other meetings as required.
10. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
11. Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested.
12. Must maintain a 95% accuracy rate on quarterly report card.
13. Must maintain accurate time clock punches, punch in and out according to hospital policy.
14. Must maintain a professional attitude.
15. Must wear appropriate clothing acceding to dress code.
16. Responsible admitting walk in patients according to EMTALA guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Equipment/Technology: Ability to use hospital information system, and operate basic computer functions and software.

Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively, before groups of customers and or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratios and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Mental Capabilities: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
