The Opportunity
The role of Tutor at Summit Educational Group is challenging, fun, and rewarding. As a Summit Tutor you will help students reach their potential and open doors for them, empowering them to reach some of their wildest dreams. This is a part time opportunity, a perfect job for those who love connecting with young adults, are passionate about education, and find true enjoyment in helping others accomplish their goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This position is part-time. Tutors can maintain up to 12 students but are expected to maintain a minimum of 3 (approximately 6-25 hours a week).
  • One weekend day required as evenings and weekends are our busiest times.
  • Tutor responsibilities include analyzing student diagnostic performance, determining student needs, teaching Summit curriculum, assigning homework, and updating parents/caregivers and the Summit office about student progress.

Your Skill Set:
As a candidate for the role of Tutor you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Experience and/or a high level of comfort working with high school aged adolescents, alongside an ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Understanding and facility with concepts that appear on the ACT and SAT, including algebraic expressions, angles, exponents and roots, as well as conventions of standard English.
  • A student centered disposition that prioritizes the learning needs of the young people we serve.
  • Teaching or tutoring experience is welcomed, but not required.
  • Access to reliable transportation and willingness to travel 30-60 minutes to students’ homes.
  • Reliable internet access for updating student information, submitting hours, and conducting online lessons as needed.
  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Strong ability to follow through on commitments, while being flexible in light of student schedule changes.
  • Experience working with Learning Differences is a plus

Compensation:
Tutors are compensated at a rate of $35 - $40/hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Through June of 2022, tutors will receive a $20 bonus for each in person session. Tutors are compensated for travel to sessions taking over 30 minutes. All tutors are evaluated annually, and rate increases reward our best tutors. There are additional opportunities to teach, proctor, research for those looking to expand their role.
