Job Description The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida invites applications and nominations for multiple tenure-track faculty positions. Since its founding in 2003, the Department has undergone remarkable growth in size and has gained national recognition for its focus on experiential learning and its innovative disciplinary tracks in high-performance vehicles, robotics, energy, and biomedical systems. At least one of the positions is expected to focus in robotics & autonomous systems, so candidates with experience and research interests in this field are encouraged to apply. Outstanding candidates in other fields will also be considered. The selected candidates are expected to start at the assistant professor rank however, considerations will also be given to outstanding candidates at the associate and full professor ranks. Known for its Aerospace and Aviation focus, the College of Engineering has a total enrollment of over 2500 students, over 100 full-time faculty members, and enjoys top rankings and a national reputation. Mechanical Engineering is the second largest department and the fastest growing program on campus with 400 bachelors, masters, and PhD students and 20 full-time faculty members. The Mechanical Engineering Department has small class sizes and places a large emphasis on experiential learning, including student competitions such as the Maritime RobotX Challenge and EcoCAR. The Department conducts research in areas including robotics & autonomous systems, biomechanics, automotive engineering, computational fluid dynamics, energy systems, and others. In addition to the facilities and labs in the Lehman Engineering and Technology Center, a new 50,000 square foot Engineering Center, the John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Innovation Complex, was recently completed as an anchor building for the University’s research park, featuring state-of-the-art engineering research labs, incubation, and accelerator spaces. A new Cray supercomputer has recently been acquired, and a new world class subsonic research wind tunnel has recently been commissioned. Job Requirements The successful candidates will have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, an ability to contribute to the research efforts of the Department, and an interest in and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Particular research interests include: robotics, autonomous systems, perception systems, machine learning, navigation & control systems, bio-inspired robots, connected and automated vehicles, and other related areas. Industrial, government, and/or academic experience, especially related to robotics & autonomy will strengthen a candidate’s credentials.
