Temporary Warehouser

The Seattle Fire Department is seeking a temporary Warehouser to support our Services Warehouse. This temporary worker will report to the Chief Warehouser and provide administrative, logistical, and operational support for to the four Community COVID-19 Testing Sites managed by the Seattle Fire Department.
The primary assignment location is at the Services Warehouse is located in the SODO area at 3601 – 2nd Avenue South.
This temporary position will receive 5% temporary premium pay in lieu of benefits. The position is funded through March 30, 2021, and may be extended beyond then based on need. Job Responsibilities:- Drive a vehicle to deliver supplies to Fire Stations, Department offices, and Community Test Site locations throughout the City.
- Drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up equipment, tools, and supplies or conduct other warehouse and department activities.
- Perform routine record keeping and related clerical duties, such as: data entry and maintenance of files and records, respond to written and telephone inquiries, and perform other miscellaneous administrative tasks.
- Prepare purchasing requisitions and assist in the ordering of materials from pre-approved vendors according to Department procedures.
- Load and unload shipments.
- Receive incoming stock, check and count items received against invoices, packing slips or bills.
- Inspect the materials for quality and damage; document receipt; and store the equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Provide over-the-counter service for packages, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Provide logistical support during major emergency incidents.
- Collect and receive containers or materials containing potentially hazardous substances, identify materials, and prepare for disposal.
- Operate a variety of warehouse equipment and machinery including forklift, pallet jack, mobile floor sweeper, and barrel-dolly.
- Maintain a safe, neat, and organized work environment.
Qualifications:Requires a minimum of six months warehousing experience or related clerical experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
- Valid driver's license and positive driving history required.
- Candidate must pass a pre-employment physical.
- Candidate must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Candidate must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Candidate must be able and willing to work with materials containing toxic/hazardous substances. Candidate must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Additional desired qualifications are listed below:
- Current Washington State Forklift Safety and Operations Certification.
- Ability to interact with various members of the organization, other City departments and outside vendors in a respectful manner.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Word, Excel and warehouse databases.
