Teller II

- Process member transactions which include but are not limited to deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and loan payments in the most courteous and efficient manner, both in person and on the telephone, on a daily basis.
- Promotes credit union products and services; consistently cross-sells and actively refers members to the appropriate branch staff at every opportunity.
- Accurately records and verifies receipt of cash, checks and other financial transactions. Includes balancing cash drawer daily, maintains proper amounts in cash drawer.
- In absence of Lead Teller directs processing of night, mail and drop box transactions. Sells cashier checks, corporate checks and money orders. Redeems savings bonds. Manages cash requirements for branch and maintains control over vault.
- Assists with controlling non-cash items (money orders, corporate and cashier checks).
- Assists with operational requirements: replenish supplies, maintains professional branch appearance
- Prepares reports and accurately maintains logs.
- Completes special requirements such as check ordering, helping Members with basic account inquiries, supports Marketing functions with special promotions and other community projects.
- Participates in dual control functions, audits other tellers’ currency.
- Assists Lead Teller with training of new Teller Trainees.
- Acts as a resource to staff; identifies and provides solutions to the more challenging Member situations.
- Follows and enforces security program at the branch such as dual control, proper opening, closing and alarm procedures.
- Assists in the maintenance, upkeep and image of facilities to maintain professional image of VCU.
- Maintains confidentiality of member and employee information.
- Takes initiative to learn new skills or pursue training to enhance skill set.
- May be required to report on completion of tasks, results of coaching or other assigned duties to the Lead Teller as designated by the Branch Manager.
- Report to the Lead Teller any absence or tardiness of other tellers.
- Perform any additional duties or assignments as directed by management.
KNOWLEDGE:
- The individual should have a strong working knowledge of all policies, products and services of the credit union.
SKILLS:
- A positive individual that is team-oriented; able to see the steps necessary to get things done; meets deadlines; willing to put in the necessary time to get the job done – but at the same time is a good time manager; and, willing to take responsibility for own actions.
- Attention to detail a must. Possess strong problem solving skills and be flexible in meeting staff and member needs.
- Effective communication and listening skills; can comfortably deal with people at all levels; a good listener who is empathic with board, staff and member needs; possesses above average oral communication skills. Must be a friendly, pleasant individual.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Incumbent must be a high school graduate or equivalent and preferably have at least two years of experience as a teller in a financial institution, one of these years being with VCU. A college degree is helpful but not required.
